    You don't need to wait 7 months after unification. By the time Wlad and Iggy have finished, there will be IBF mandatory in place - winner of Povetkin-Chambers (almost certainly Povetkin).

    Under WBO rules, unificaton may grant the extention of the time limit up to the 9 months since the unification bout.

    If WBO for some reason decides not to grant the extention, it would be logical choice to drop WBO title and fight Povetkin.

    Povetkin:
    - is the Olimpian Gold Medalist;
    - has greater KO %age;
    - beat ex-champ (Byrd);
    - is popular in Germany (if Wlad wins unification, this makes fight highly marketable);
    - is NOT 36 years old

    Thompson is:

    -.................................................. ................. american.

      Haha,no it wont. I predicted Austin to get blown away by Wlad in less than 3 rounds, but Thompson has got a wrong style for Wlad. I would'nt bet on this fight, a 6'5 245 lbs Southpaw who has good defense, speed and workrate.

        Thompson isn't the best heavyweight out there, but to give him no chance against the top guys is ignorant. Tony has good range and get this HE WOEKS THE BODY AND THROWS COMBOS. His chin really hasn't been checked much though, so that is something I'm a little worried about. I would like to see Chagaev/Thompson on the undercard of Klitschko/Ibragimov. Chagaev will test everything Thompson has to offer, and a belt to boot. I don't have Tony beating Ruslan, but it would be a good fight. As for Chagaev, i have his style beating Wlad and Povetkin's style beating Chagaev, and Wlad's style taking out Povetkin. It's a wonderful troika of Russian power.

          First, let me say that Tony Thompson ain’t no Ray Austin! Thompson’s a much better and skilled fighter than Austin is, and has a much better attitude than him as well. Let me explain: Tony Thompson earned his title shot after beating Krasniqi in a WBO title eliminator last summer and instead of ‘resting on his laurels’ and waiting for a shot, he’s already fought once and is planning another fight before he steps in with the winner of Iggy-Wlad…

          To me, his commitment to keep fighting shows me that he’s very serious about maintaining his level of conditioning and fight performance, so that he’s absolutely as ready as possible when he finally does get his shot. This is a sign of a serious contender who wants to win and not just survive when he does face the champ…

            I love How if you are a "southpaw" You instantly have the "Style" to beat Wlad..

            Chagaev and Thompson are NOT Corrie Sanders..

              OMG...

              Povetkin is earning the shot beating Donald, Byrd. Not Krasniqi.

              Yet he has to beat Chambers to earn it finally, while Thompson is sooooooooo kind fighting Couser and yet another D-level bum.

                I have to disagree Welter, Chagaev is a very good fighter and I think he would beat a prime Corrie Sanders by UD. Chagaev is a very skilled boxer puncher with an iron chin, he was also a great amateur, he easily beat the legendary Felix savon. With all that being said, Wlad would still kick his ass.

                I think what you are trying to say is that Sanders is a tougher matchup for Wlad, and he is. Prime Sanders was a 6,4 devastating puncher with fast hands and a very good chin. His height and reach give him a better chance against Wlad than the 6,1 Chagaev. Styles make fights, I still think the new Wlad would crush prime Corrie Sanders in a rematch though.

                  My point was that many fighters, who earn title shots, wait for the shot and play conservative by not fighting in the interim i.e. Sam Peter. I respect Thompson for staying busy and think it shows that he wants to be on the top of game when he finally does get the shot…

                    Prime Sanders lost to the steel-chinned, power-punching Hasim Rahman. Catch the synicism? This is for you too Welter, Chagaev is well above Sanders in every category, minus the lucky one. I am not a huge Wlad fan, but it was inexperience that cost him against Sanders. Chagaev wipes the floor with Sanders. Corrie just caught Wlad at the right time. These are heavyweights people, none of them are impervious to defeat on any given night with reputable opponents, and Sanders is atleast reputable. And 7'0" Valuev wasn't too tall for 6'1" Chagaev, so we'll see about that height issue. Now Wlad Owns does respect Chagaev, and many don't. Thats a shame, but at least we'll probably get to see Wlad and Ruslan down the road after Ruslan defeats his mandatory and Wlad picks Sultan apart. But then again I expected Wlad to walk all over Sanders too.

                      Now that we’re on the subject of Chagaev; has anyone heard any news on this guy? Is he expected to fight the winner of Sergie-Value meal? Or exercise an optional defense?...
