Joe won the fight before the contract was signed.

This fight may have been what finally got Chris the respect he long wanted from Britain.
i dont know why people use excuses for Eubank being weight drained or past his best does it make any difference wether he was or was'nt Calzaghe would have beaten a prime Eubank regardless

So the slower, older Eubank who gave a good account of himself against Joe would have had little to no advantage if Chris was younger and faster and had the proper time to train?

I'm going to disagree with you here.

Calzaghe wasn't a world champion. He was a rookie, and a pretty raw one at that. Both fighters came through that fight with a whole lot of credit for different reasons, but both deservedly so.

Sadly, in the UK people prefer glorious failure to genuine achievement. That is why Eubank was more popular after his defeats to Calzaghe and Thompson and also why Lewis Hamilton will win Sports Personality of the Year and neither Calzaghe nor Hatton (if he beats Mayweather) will.

He would have had to stop him as even Eubank concedes he'd lose if it went to the judges.

Possible but unlikely IMO. It's been a while since I've seen the fight but Eubank was still top level then.

i agree people who claim Eubank was passed it are a joke he was beaten fair & square by a figher who was completing 12 rounds for the first time ever in his career & a fighter who was no where near as good as he is today

So the little old rookie beat the king of the smw ring at the time, wtf he beat him and would beat him again and again, Eubank was a very tough boxer, but the rookie beat him ,says it all, leave the excuses under the history book.
