How ironic Is It that If Hopkins did not drop everything(take a 50/50 purse split or less even though Hopkins credidentials far exceed Joe's) and run over to the U.K. to fight Calzaghe then the majority of the people accuse hopkins of ducking Calzaghe or being scared. Now turn the tables the offer has been made(and a pretty good offer If the 16 million Is a real figure)and watch the excuses fly like Warren will not except the deal or Hopkins Is boring and no one wants to see him or Joe Is the one that calls the shots or Hopkins will not be able to sell seats and Joe should get the majority of the purse and on and on and on.People need to step back open there eyes and look at Bernards accomplishments regardless of the fact that he Is supposedly boring.I myself do not call Bernard boring I call him one of the smartest fighters In the history of boxing and 50 years from now I think Bernard will finally get the respect he deserves.

You must be real ****** if you think they offered him 16M $. That is more than you could gain with 300,000 Buys. Bernard get 3,5M $ for his last fight against Winky, so you must be really very naive if yoi think they have offered Calzaghe 16M$.

No I am not real ******.If you look at what was posted I said If the 16 million dollar figure was real which I am certain It Is not.It doesn't matter what the money Is, the misconception will continue to be If Hopkins refuses an offer he Is scared and ducking Calzaghe and If Calzaghe declines an offer well he had good reason to.

There is no way Calzaghe was offered 16 million dollars. The fight is only going to make about 20 million and no way would Hopkins agree to give Joe 80% of the purse, when he has publicly stated he wants a 60/40 split in his favor.

Calzaghe’s promoter Frank Warren has started negotiations with Hopkins’ representatives, Golden Boy Promotions, owned by American boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya, for a possible £10m Spring showdown in the States

“Hopkins says the purse must be 60-40 in his favor

“Boxing is a business so any deal must be fair. Just for his ego I’ll allow 51 per cent to 49 in his favour.

Calzaghe/Hopkins would do a lot more than 300K in PPV buys, but 16 mill is still way high.

Also if there's a promotional tie in, and Warren is bought out by the deal, GBP will be able to use Calzaghe to draw other fighter into it's snare. The money GBP could make off this could be big in the long run.

The reason I think this offer is bull**** isn't that GBP couldn't generate this sort of money from the bout but that Calzaghe and Warren would have accepted that sort of cash without a second's thought. I know the Dollar is worth as much as the Cuban Peso these days but $16m is still around the £7-£8m mark, which is as much as Calzaghe earned in his last 3 fights combined.
