He engages at times when he's fighting small opponents, but even against Winky he didn't stand and trade. It was one punch at a time, then they tied each other up. Floyd's last 2 fights have been against guys who have rock solid chins and outweighed him by 20 pounds. You can't judge a guys whole career on a select few fights. He fights going backwards against bigger opponents because that gives him the best chance to win. How many other guys can do that?

Not many. Don't get me wrong, Floyd's skill level is incredible.

But look at what Mosley did at 147. He went right at Cotto and took some big shots. He fought Vernon Forrest at 147 and 154. He fought Winky at 154 and went toe to toe.

Mosley has some substance to his game. And dont forget, he only started his career 5 pounds north of Mayweather, man.

I was sitting there watching the Cotto - Mosley bout...and it just dawned on me. Floyd must have a terrible chin. Why does he fight the way he does? Does he have any pride in himself?

He fights the way he does because it feels more comfromtable for him. Boxers don't always have to go toe to toe.

Think about what you just wrote. Mosley lost ALL of the fights you mentioned. That is exactly the reason Floyd fights the way he does. He wins. That is exactly why Floyd would beat Mosley and Cotto as well.

I am not talking about going toe to toe. I am talking about ENGAGING. Winky and Hopkins ENGAGE with other opponents.

Look at the way Hopkins went at Tarver, THE BIGGER MAN.

Winky went after Hopkins/Taylor the same way. Both were the BIGGER MEN.

Both the fighters I mentioned above has substance.

Floyd has an A+ for style...but for substance. He is lacking.

Dude I can mention the A. Davis bout where he went at him. Or Holiday. Or Delahoya.

              What's the point, bro?

You're tellin' me he coulda beat up those guys by boxing on the backfoot?

              er...

Mosley at 147 in his prime would have beat Cotto. I think Cotto's body work and Mosley's age helped slow Mosley down. He didn't throw as much as he usually does late in a fight. It felt like he aged during the fight.

Yeah, but Floyd was never really used to that. He was taught a certain way and uses it.

That and I think Hopkins can be more effective against bigger men because he still is strong. Winky can be offensive against bigger men, but he loses =/ (Well not against Taylor, but lets admit. Taylor isn't the smartest fellow around and Winky gave the 12th away).

Floyd is the smaller man for most of his fights except this one coming up. Hopkins and Winky hit harder as well and don't have f'd up hands.

I'm telling you that you do what you need to do to win the fight. If Mosley had better footwork and defense he would've easily beat Cotto.
