Miguel Cotto Says a Margarito Bout is Possible

According to a recent interview with Spanish publication Endi, WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) is willing to face Antonio Margarito for the right price. After his decision of Shane Mosley in Madison Square Garden, Cotto said that a fight with him was out of the question, citing that Margarito turned him down a few months ago to make mandatory defense against Paul Williams, which Margarito lost. A rematch with Golden Johnson is more important right now. If not i can say Margarito is ducking Golden.

That will be a step down for cotto I highly doubt it will be pay per view.. Cotto should only be fighting the best, But I'm guessing if the fight doesnt occur it will be assumed Cotto ducked Margarito

Cotto/Margarito would be entertaining to watch, while we wait for the winner of Williams/Cintron to fight the winner of Mayweather/Hatton, then one more fight and UNIFIED.

Even when Margarito had the WBO belt for so long, it really never helped him with any leverage for big fights. So it's obvious that whether the man has a title or not, he's still too much of a high-risk/low-reward opponent for a lot of the big names.

He chose to fight Williams because he didn't want to lose his title outside of the ring by being stripped. So while he himself messed up his chance for a fight with Cotto, it was to defend the belt that he fought hard to win. I don't see a problem with that.

Cotto's right though, he should get paid for this fight. You can't offer him a huge amount like the $8 million that was offered to Floyd to fight Margarito 'cause Tony no longer even has a belt. Anybody know how much Cotto made for the Mosely fight? I would think somewhere around $4-5 million would seem fair. Margarito probably wouldn't get more than a million, making it his second-highest payday of his career. Didn't he make like $1.2 or $1.5 mil against Williams?

A step down? Maybe...but you can't deny that it would be an entertaining fan-friendly fight!

The problem is, I don't see how De la Hoya, Hatton or Mayweather are REALLY going to be that eager to get in there with Cotto. Whereas Margarito would be more than willing and the fight could be easily made.

                    Cotto should fight Baldimor.
