If you know the reason then maybe you would care to enlighten me?

Arum did not want to kill the golden goose by matching him against Hatton at 140. Cotto was consistently weight-drained at 140 while Hatton is insanely strong at the weight. Hatton would have been way too much for Cotto at Jr Welter. At Welterweight things are even, I think that Hatton's fast feet, punch output and chin match up well with Cotto's superior power, and more orthodox boxing ability. It would be a dangerous fight for both guys with the likelihood being a late stoppage for one man or the other. Hatton would start quickly as he is wont to do and as Cotto is not, and it would become more even as the fight progressed. At some point either Hatton will get caught with some monster punches or Cotto, who likes to take rounds off, will leave himself open to some clean hard body punches, and one of them would get stopped.

Hatton is quicker, has better hand and footspeed and hits pretty hard in his own right. However his style relies alot on roughhousing and bullying his opponents with his strength. I don't see him bullying a guy who put the BULL in bullying, Miguel Cotto.

Forgive me, but that news is hardly Earth-shattering and I seem to have missed the point?

Cotto was always touted as a possible opponent for Hatton on UK TV in the run up to and immediate aftermath of the Tszyu fight which says to me that Hatton's camp must have been pretty keen on the fight as well.
