A Look at the future of the heavies

A look at the Heavyweight division

    Top Guys
These guys will be factors for the foreseeable future

Klistchko- will remain dominent for the forseable future as he is much improved and seems to have beaten his nerve and stamina problems.

Chagaev- All around solid no real weaknesses and has some really solid wins. I would really like to see more of this guy.

    Middle of the pack

Ibraginov- solid fighter with good boxing skills and fast hands. His chin may not be that great however. He will make some interesting fights.

Valuev- We will just have to see how he does with his comeback. I think his days are numbered however as he can be easily out worked by many of the top heavies.

Lyachovich- like Valuev he is in limbo also. His fight with valuev is important to see who has a future in the divison. Like the other eastern Euros Sultan and Ruslan he seems solid and was beating Briggs until he got caught.

Peter- Wow talk about going from savior to nothing but questions. Does he really have a chin is his power overrated. Were the Toney victories do more to Toney’s age and injuries than peters skills.

    Up and coming
Povetkin- This guy seems like the real deal and has great skills and determination. I just wonder how he will fair against another hungry and confident heavy.

Chambers- Big questions about this guy. If he can throw more punches he will be a factor if not he won’t go to far as he will get beat by any of the eastern euros.

Thompson- For some reason I think this guy is the sleeper of the division. He has some good skill size and a good jab. 08 should be a very interesting year for him.

    On the way out

Brewster- He never had that much skill to begin with and his only defense was a solid chin. His power could still win him a few fights but I just don’t see him going anywhere. He was very exciting when he was on top.

Byrd- He is done as a heavy he just does not have the speed or movment to compete with the big boys and has not for a while. Great champ classy guy glad I don’t have to hear his wife for much longer.
Rachman- He has made a career on beating nobodies and getting credit for it the last few years. Its pretty sad when your best win since Lewis is a decision over Monty Barret.

Toney- Injeries and age have claimed Toney. I don’t think he has that much left at heavy like byrd if he could get back to cruiser he could extend his career.

Brock- He just does not seem to have fire anymore and never did much to earn a lot of recognition besides a solid win over Mcline. His chin and conditioning are now suspect as well.

Maskaev- Everyone knows he was always on borrowed time. I am glad he won a title because I always liked him.

              yes, nice .
lets hope chagaev recoups with the liver problems. but i dont know. i have same type of problem and its a bummer with the constant fatigue. don;t know how he does it.
have six of chagaevs fights on dvd. man that guys solid and his footwork is impressive. think he would give the klits a run for it.
              nice post areallfighter.

If ruslan can stay healthy he will have a great career. The best part is that he is still young. He can improve on some things like his d but his health will be key.

I am really intrested of what people think of Tony Thompson. He seems really solid and has a couple decent wins. His age does not seem to be a factor as he has not been in a battle. I hope to see more of this guy in 08
