Kessler is a great fighter and he will dominate the division from now on but to say 'did he get a draw'?

Tell you what, ask him, because when the bell rang he looked like the beaten man and after the fight he offered no excuses or complaints.

He lost to a better man on the night.

Isn't that refreshing? I mean would we prefer the controversy of many a title fight gone by?
you have to accept, that some people do score fights in different ways, i didnt have joe winning 9-3 or 8-4, i do admit that joe won, but the margin was to wide. but that really doesnt matter, it wasnt a robbery, it wastn bad for boxing, and whether or not someone had it 9-3 or a draw, kessler just didnt do enough to win, and the victory was rightfully joe´s.

I'll have to rewatch round 5 but remember it being close, but edging towards Calzaghe if anyone. Certainly not 10-9 Kessler.

I'm amazed by the amount of people giving round 7 to Kessler. Sure he landed a few bombs and a had a good 30 seconds or so, but Calzaghe was well on top during the round. Same with Round 12.

No Mikkel, it was'nt a draw. You won 3 rounds....keep in mind there were 12.
Not even Kessler is crazy enough to think he won that fight.

The Italian judge scored 2,4,5,10 (not 12???!) for Kessler

Amongst the 3 judges you can find 6 different rounds for Kessler (personally i would give round 1 to Kessler too) so i guess You could make the argument that Kessler got robbed!!
By the same reasoning you could say Calzaghe won eleven rounds, as only round 4 was denied him on all three cards.

You have to remember that not everyone scores a fight the same. Some people favor the fighter that throws more punches and some favor the fighter who lands the harder blows, even if they're less. If you look at the punchstat numbers, Joe threw a ton of jabs that, while they score, don't count as much, to me, as a few landed power punches.

I'll give you an example, and this is a bit of an exageration for the purpose of demonstration: say fighter A lands 60/100 in a round and fighter B lands 30/60. You'd probably think that fighter A did better. Now, imagine that fighter A's numbers in that round were 55/90 jabs and 5/10 power punches while figher B's numbers were 30/50 power punches and 0/10 jabs. Who would you score the round for now? I'd say the guy who connected more power punches should win the round most of the time (you have to take the other factors like ring generalship and defense into consideration, too).

In the early rounds, Joe was jabbing more and throwing less power punches while Kessler was connecting more power punches, per round, than Joe. That's why I gave most of the early rounds to Kessler.

Like I said before, I had it either 6-6 or 7-5 Joe. I don't think Kessler did enough to win, but it was a competitive fight.

Exactly. I remember watching the fight and Kessler told his trainer Richard Olsen "I don't know what to do" In danish of course

i think i had it 7 to joe 1 drawn and 4 to kessler from memory.

i go more for quality of the shots than quantity.

if fighter A lands 10 punches without phasing his opponent and fighter B lands 1 punch that does hurt his opponent.. ive got to give it to fighter B.. that's pro boxing for me..

I had it 8-4 for Calzaghe. Some rounds were close but Joe won ATLEAST 7 rounds. He definitely won that fight.

Of course everyone has a different view especially if you have a personal investment in a fighter however in this case the judges were unanimous albeit one judged JC to be 6 ahead instead of four like the others and Kessler and his team offered no complaints whatsoever.

If it had have been that close do you not think that Kessler and his team would have made some noise about it? Of course they would.

I agree that the fight could have been interpreted differently depending on your viewing angle and your personal point of view but there is no way it could ever have been given as a draw.

Great fight, well contested by both but Calzaghe was the clear winner.
