How do you judge the offensive 'game' of one fighter who moves up 5 weight classes from his orginal weight?

and another fighter who stayed in the same weight class for 10 years.

If calzaghe moved up to heavyweight, you think his offensive 'game' would be as good then?

I am saying Calzaghe is more offensively skilled than Mayweather. Mayweather is a boxer through and through and doesn't like to come forward and take risks, Calzaghe is a boxer, a brawler what ever he needs or wants to be. When do you see Mayweather stalking an opponent and cutting off the ring, pushing forward and cornering his opponent and trying to grind down his foe not very often if at all, Calzaghe does this regulary as well as having all the tools of a great boxer so he is more the complete fighter. Calzaghe does everything really well and also has a great chin allowing him to trade with heavier hitters, Mayweather has never really proved he can stand and trade with big hitters and nearly always boxes on the retreat so how does that make PBF a better offensive fighter than Mosley or Calzaghe.

Next you'll be saying PBF is more offensive than Tyson was and hits as hard.

In my narrow-minded way of reasoning, there's no such thing as a "most complete" fighter. A fighter is either complete, or he's not. It's as absolute a concept as being pregnant - there's no such thing as being "a little pregnant," it's either you're pregnant, or you're not.
Get it?

That said, I would approach the issue from this angle: Who comes closest to being a complete fighter? To be a complete fighter, one must have "ring generalship" and all the tools of the trade. There are very few fighters of this calibre in boxing history, let alone today.

There may be others today, but those who come the closest - off the top of my head - are, Floyd Maywether, Miguel Cotto, Marco Antonio Barrera and Oscar de la Hoya. Joe Calzaghe, by the way, is not one of those.

A fighter's record or success in the ring is not necessarily a direct reflection of "pugilistic completeness." For example, a devastating puncher or "KO artist" can have a perfect record and not demostrate any ring generalship whatsoever.

• Ability to utilize all punches (jab, hook, cross, uppercut) effectively.
• Ability to utilize all punches in combinations.
• Ability to utilize multiple defensive skills (blocking, slipping, rolling, etc).
• Ability to counterpunch (even against the ropes).
• Ability to dictate tempo of the fight.
• Ability to stalk (cut off the ring on the opponent).
• And, yes, ring generalship (whatever that is)

Everything you have listed which you consider tools to be a complete fighter Calzaghe can do all of them and really well too. I don't recall too many occasions seeing PBF stalking and cutting off the ring and forcing the tempo of a fight, not dictating but forcing the tempo. Calzaghe is a complete fighter more than PBF will ever be.

Did mayweather trade alot less with guys when he moved up to his 4th weight class? Yes, why?

Might have something to do with him moving up to 147 after starting at 130 lol.

What do you want mayweather to do? stand and trade with De La Hoya who came in at 160 nearly, or Baldomir who also came in around middleweight for a fight at 147.

And as for Calzaghe being more offensively skilled than Mayweather, well, that speaks for itself, calzaghe hasn't been in with ANYWHERE near the competition mayweather has been in with, hasnt moved up a single weight class, hasnt ever fought a single guy who was on the p4p list, not to mention the fact his hands are so brittle he has to slap/punch, or that his punch variety doesnt rival mayweather, if you look at the body-head combinations mayweather thows against class fighters, or when he leans on the ropes and picks guys off from inside a shell, or when he hits a guy with the same right hand multiple times a row whiist ducking counters at the same time. I dont think calzaghe is as good at this as mayweather.

I dunno how a win over Mikkel Kessler makes you the most complete fighter on earth, but keep your opinion.

I will keep it and it seems the majority agree with me. Considering how many PBF nuthuggers there are on this site it just shows you how many knowledgable fans there are for him to still be ahead of PBF. I don't hate PBF I really rate him and think he is one of the greatest boxers I have seen, but I just think Calzaghe is complete and can do it all. He might not be as good as a defensive boxer as PBF but IMO has more going forward.
