Roy Jones: "I Told DiBella, Turn Down Pavlik"

In a recent interview with BoxingScene.com's Bill Emes, former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. said that he issued a warning to promoter Lou DiBella to have then middleweight champion Jermain Taylor stay away from fighting his mandatory, Kelly Pavlik. Jones says that he knew Taylor was going to be knocked out by Pavlik. [details]

"According to Jones, he feels that his last opponent, Anthony Hanshaw, would give Pavlik all he could handle. He predicts an entertaining battle that could rival Pavlik's seven-round war with Taylor"

LOL. Jones is a joke. I hope he fights Pavlik in mid 08, he will be put to rest once and for all.

What's interesting here is Jones is exposing his own character. What do you do if the opponent is truly threatening, even if it's a MANDATORY?? Avoid them. This is enlightening.

Like he did to calzaghe. When Roy was in his prime, Calzaghe wanted roy. Roy didn't want Calzaghe.

Yeah, Roy owned himself. He avoided Joe Calzaghe and Darius Michalczewski when he was in his prime because he felt they were too dangerous. I remember him saying something like "I wouldn't want to fight a young lion like Calzaghe right now, he is too hungry". Roy would also duck Pavlik too if he was around in Roy's prime, at least Taylor has the balls to take tough fights like Pavlik,Hopkins and Winky.
