Roy may not have been the best ever in his prime but he was the best looking in the sense he looked like ONE OF A KIND in what he did. He not only beat guys but humiliated them... If Roy would have had an appraoch as the Smart Hopkins had he would be held at the same standard and a rematch would be inevitable... But instead Roy listened to what people said and he wanted to prove the, different so he rose in weight at a rat he couldnt sustain thus he went up beat Ruiz and dropped down and lost!Comment

I am 100% certain that Roy Jones Jr is THE most athletically gifted fighter to EVER lace up a pair of gloves.
p4p I would not pick any fighter to beat him at his prime.
Does that mean he is the GOAT? No. It simply means that he is so god damn athletic that nobody stands a chance in hell of beating him.
There are many fighters with more talent, more smarts, and better technique, but none of that matters when you cant react fast enough dodge his punches.
Maybe, and I stress MAYBE Pernell Whitaker might be able to eek out a SD over Roy, but the guy is just to damn athletic.
If you were to build a boxer, you would build Roy Jones.
He is fast
He has arms so long he looks like a monkey
He has power in both hands
He can put together combinations
He is nearly impossible to hitComment

are you kidding. mayweather gets accused and criticized for damn near everything he does even though skillwise, floyd mayweather would beat every fighter from 154 down and the fighters that he fought lose credibility because they were either bums to many people or they were past their prime, yet roy jones gets praised and let's really be honest, roy jones was extremely talented but floyd mayweather was an overall better boxer and wway more polsihed than roy was. floyd had better footwork, better upperbody movement, they both are pretty much equal in counterpunching, but roy tended to get sloppy.Couldn't have said it any better
I've seen a lot of fights, a lot of who people consider to be the best of all time, but I don't think any of them could beat a prime RJJ. People seem to forget RJJ called all HW ABC belt holders out for almost half a decade and most of the opposition he'd been "ducking" turned out to eventually be nobodies, frauds (who were later exposed), or guys he'd already beaten (Hopkins, Toney etc.)
RJJ has been criticized for ducking opposition just because he was so good. However prime RJJ looked for the biggest $$ fights available and did his mandatory title defenses. We don't accuse today's p4p best fighters half as much for wanting big money fights (Hopkins, Wright, Mosley, Mayweather, DLH etc.)
roy was great, but only at what he knew best. roy couldn't adapt to fighters like a ray robinson or a floyd mayweather jr could. roy had amazing handspeed and moved around the ring so good but he fought unorthodox a lot. mayweather, skillwise, is the greatest fighter/boxer of his generation and possibly ever. when you llok at just how great floyd's footwork and upperbody angles are, you have to admit that hardly no other fighter could do what he did. floyd's defense as far as fighting off of the ropes was brilliant. the way he could change his pace while throwing a combination was brilliant. roy jones skillwise is just a gifted fighter with things he did well. floyd was a complete fighter with great fundamentals and precision and he was a better p4p champion than roy was. hell, leonard had more skill than roy.Comment

after watching this highlight video, skillwise, roy cannot touch floyd. floyd is just too methodical in the ring, roy is just naturally athletic like someone posted, floyd is a better and smarter overall fighter than roy which is why floyd will retire undefeated, i guarantee it.Comment

Well said. I still think Robinson would take it. But not enough evidence.no.
well it is hard to measure since there is so little footage of robinson @ 147, hardly any of greb...not enough of fighters like canzoneri, armstrong, walker, pep, etc...
as far as from fighters with more footage, i am more impressed with duran at his lightweight peak and leonard at his welterweight peak.Comment

No Floyd Mayweather Jr is
But no seriously RJJ was pretty damn good at 160, but his chin keeps him from being the greatest p4p ever.Comment

Roy formidable in his prime. My complaint about Roy is that he wasted alot of time fighting tomato cans. Am I wrong? Why didn't Hopkins ever get a rematch? I never figured that out except for that one time in which Roy made an offer that was so insulting that Bernard wouldn't accept. What was it, a 60/40 split in favor of Jones? I remember Bernard complaining about it because he was the champ at the time. Again, I've not researched this issue and going strictly off memory which is admittedly foggy. What are the details of the never to materialize Hopkins-Jones rematch?I am 100% certain that Roy Jones Jr is THE most athletically gifted fighter to EVER lace up a pair of gloves.

dont try to compar mayweather to jones, mayweather will always come off worse. i can' be bothered to explain whybut i'm sure someone else will.are you kidding. mayweather gets accused and criticized for damn near everything he does even though skillwise, floyd mayweather would beat every fighter from 154 down and the fighters that he fought lose credibility because they were either bums to many people or they were past their prime, yet roy jones gets praised and let's really be honest, roy jones was extremely talented but floyd mayweather was an overall better boxer and wway more polsihed than roy was. floyd had better footwork, better upperbody movement, they both are pretty much equal in counterpunching, but roy tended to get sloppy.
