We need real fights, not exhibition matches

Boxing is not so much an art form but a fight game. People want to see the human spirit soar when faced against the odds. Usually the best in man comes out when faced with a real challenge that he dares to fight. This is what the fight fan pays for, not some art exhibit or some dancing-like-a- butterfly competition. The fight fan came to see two men actually fight, not waltz like they were choreographed or something. That is better seen in synchronized swimming or a ballet.

The problem with boxing now is there is actually more fight and drama in an NBA game than in a boxing match. When people are more inclined to watch ten men shoot a ball through a basket than a real fight between men, you cannot but help thinking that something is terribly wrong.

It sure ain't enough for us to be the number one sport, something we truly deserve.

the heavyweights are lagging behind right now. so bad heavyweight division = not the number 1 sport. but hell, i think that's going to change soon. it's not like last or anything. mma is on the come up, but that's healthy competition. no ones getting replaced or anything.

to the mainstream audience we need big lean heavyweights that excite. i mean tyson and hoylfield were well cut. people don't wanan see some fat ugly ass mofo's punching each other.

the reason i say thsi is because some girl was telling me how funny it is to see small guys fight. if it was the real world they would get knocked out by a normal person. i think it's funny but she is right. to the main spirting audience they don't care about people like vasquez etc. also people need to be given opportunites in the world to box everywhere and fget the fan base. i mean ufc was in lnodon a few mnoths ago. its everywhere.

the heavyweights are exciting but they are all russian eastern europeans so they dont draw attention the russian supremacy in the heavyweights its not gonna change anytime soon so they should consider making a usa heavyweight division

I disagree, the heavyweights are boring, Liakhovich was scared to death of an old man and he has a title?

I agree with you, joepal, that the internet FANS often view boxing as this ethereal and fictional art form, when in fact it is a very rough fight sport at heart. I think promoters recognize this, which is why you never see a fight commercial promising "technical skill, how to not get hit, punch accuracy" or some other phrase made up by people who dont know boxing.

well there is different between are brawler and a person who is a marial artist.

Part of boxing is using you brain and moving around it not all brawl. this is called tactics of fighting and arts of war.

Lol BB that was a horribly asinine statement. That phrase has been stated by people who were boxing while you were still in your father's scrotum. I think they know a little more about boxing than you. That being said I do agree that that aspect of the sport won't appeal to casual fans. They pretty much just want to see two guys punch each other in the face until one falls down.

This is what i've been saying for a long time. Boxing is a physical, contact sport. When i think of boxing, i think of 2 men battling it out until either one man is standing, or the best man wins. Yet, these so-called sweet-science snobs would actually applaud a fighter who wins a fight by doing minimal fighting. I really dont understand it. They actually get hard watching a guy like Bhop win a fight by throwing 10 punches a round. Or watching a guy like Cory Spinks flicking jabs in the air, while avoiding confrontation at all costs. Now i dont mind watching a fighter display his technical brilliance in the ring, but at least FIGHT while doing it. JMM is a great technician, but at the same time, he is aggresive and actually tries to hurt/take his opponent out. Same could be said for a prime Barrera. If an artform is what some of u guys are looking for, then go watch capoeira.
