We need real fights, not exhibition matches

That's why I made it NH to euphemize it. Although really when most people say you're boring, YOU ARE BORING.LMAO you can call me a Floyd NH but then say no need for insults. You are funny sometimes. I am a black man I have always been a minority. So my opinion on those fights being in the minority doesn't change my opinion or mean that I can't respect those opinions that are opposite of mine about those fights.Comment

What does your race have to do with this discussion? Because you're black you have to defend Floyd? I don't get it.LMAO you can call me a Floyd NH but then say no need for insults. In my opinion Boxing IS an artform.Boxing is not so much an art form but a fight game. People want to see the human spirit soar when faced against the odds. Usually the best in man comes out when faced with a real challenge that he dares to fight. This is what the fight fan pays for, not some art exhibit or some dancing-like-a- butterfly competition. The fight fan came to see two men actually fight, not waltz like they were choreographed or something. That is better seen in synchronized swimming or a ballet.
The problem with boxing now is there is actually more fight and drama in an NBA game than in a boxing match. When people are more inclined to watch ten men shoot a ball through a basket than a real fight between men, you cannot but help thinking that something is terribly wrong.
Agree?
Every fight cant be two guys abandoning defensive tactics and just swinging freely. If this did happen for every fighter dont count on seeing them past 30 years old, they would all be beat up pretty badly.
Yes i admit, we all love our Diego Corrales (RIP), Miguel Cotto, MAB, Kelly Pavlik, Edision Miranda, Arturo Gatti, etc. type of fighters who go in there and have tremendous amount of heart and provide us with a highly dramatic fight that keeps you on the edge of your couch waiting to see what happens next but there are boxers (not brawlers) who are capable of providing the same excitement.
not everyone will agree but take a look back at fights like Oscar de La Hoya/Floyd Mayweather jr or Jermain Taylor/Bernard Hopkins I and for some even II.
Those are fights in very recent years that in my opinion didnt have a serious threat of an all out brawl or knockout but due to the fact the fights were close from rounds 1 to 12 it made it exciting to see who could dig deeper in the championship round to win it.
if you dont agree with those fights there must be some of that nature you enjoyed...just an example...
I like the NBA as well...
however you made that statement to make their sport sound idiotic. Thats like if someone said, "People would rather watch a sport like boxing where 2 guys beat each other up for some ****** title belt than an NBA game involving speed, competition, drama, excitement, defensive and offensive strategy, and great accuracy to make the shots".
you can belittle any sport but it doesnt make yours better.
My favorite sport is boxing...but dont beat up on other sports...unless its MMA (just kidding)..
this year has had the best fights overall than we've seen in years which is something to get real excited about.
we've had:
argueably a winner to go into the top 10 knockouts of all time (Darnell wilson ko'ing emmanuel nwodo)
Oscar De La Hoya v. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The comeback attempt of a future hall of famer in Evander Holyfield.
Jermain Taylor v. Kelly Pavlik
Edision Miranda v. Kelly Pavlik
Winky v. Bernard hopkins
Diaz v diaz
and thats just a FEW great moments of this year...
we still have Shane Mosley/Cotto, Mayweather/Hatton, etc.
i can tell you what the problem is right now...the problem is the same as its been for years now...PPV and PPV channels...
had the great fights of the year aired on free TV like your local Fox channel then right now boxing's stock would be risen so high you'd probably have 50,000 new fans on here talking about how their guy is the best....which would be great for the sport (to have such new younger fans)
dont get me wrong, i'd love to see new fans to the sport but as long as the fights stay on HBO and Shotimes air or on their PPV's you arent going to see boxing grow amoung the citizens of the U.S.
plain and simple.
Boxing is one of the few sports you cant turn on your tv and watch a sport for free whenever its on (like NFL Football, NBA Basketball, MLB Baseball, etc.)
to watch boxing you have to subscribe to HBO or Shotime...even then for a big fight you have to order a PPV for like $50.
the only thing close to "free tv" boxing is on cable which is ESPN's WNF and FNF and in my opinion those arent great cards usually and to the new comer that is interested it seems like a waste of their time.
if i personally was never able to see a PPV for free (i was at someones house when i was young and their family was watching a tyson fight) then i probably wouldnt have gained enough interest in this sport to watch it today.
see what i mean?
you need the big fights on free tv for the fans...
imagine if 1/4 of all the best fights were shown on free tv as a teaser or something for the casual fans...it would bring them in but at the same time they dont was to spend $50 (or cant spend $50) for a fight.
boxing needs to return to original form of being on free tv and even radio broadcasts.
that would help bring boxing back in the mainstream eye.
so basically what im saying to the threadstarter is if you want boxing to be the #1 mainstream sport (or even being considered a contender for #1) then you have to make boxing a mainstream sport on tv...not a secondary sport.Comment

nice post and agree on the free tv. THat time when people watch boxing in the 70s and 80s because simply it was viewed for free for everyone.
I am okay with boxing not being mainstream because if someone wanna watch boxing he will watch but If it for free then it goodComment
