It is more obvious it was a dig at Hatton.

Anyway why should Joe "respect" Mayweather?

Mayweather respects nobody but Benjamin Franklin in his pocket.
I think both respect each other skills and talent not necceraly personally but each on use each other name to hypen there fight.

I believe Mayweather trash talking Hatton means nothing because he alway comes 100% in every fight , if it Ricky Hatton, DHL, Brussles or Gatti...etc but He most of the time comes 100%.
Respect in the ring comes when a person train for a fighter giving him 100% his effort.

      Pointless....

Trash talk has been a part of pre-fight hype for years & countless fighters have done so since Ali made it famous back in the 60s. However, it's just that...HYPE...and unless a fighter can use it as some sort of psychological ploy against his opponent rarely plays an outcome come fight night. With that being said, who really cares what calzaghe thinks floyd will do in his fight or if mayweather tried to slight hatton by saying joe was the best uk fighter..NOT OF ALL TIME..but currently active. In the end, its about W's & L's, the preparation & sacrifices you make leading up the fight, your performance in the fight, and yes the millions of dollars you make after the fight. That's what its all about.

Finally, anybody who says mayweather "runs" either doesnt know a damn thang about boxing or hasnt actually watched him fight. Even if you dont have a predilection for the science of the sport (using the jab, staying on your toes, throwing crisp..fast combos, giving feints & showing diff angles, or using good foot movement to keep your opponent off balance & guessing), you cant say floyd runs. Hell, the majority of his fights are spent 'in the pocket' or on the ropes, so when the hell is he running. De la hoya had floyd on the ropes several times in their last fight and still wasnt able to land a flush shot. That's the defense..using his superior reflexes & that shoulder roll. He didnt walk thru arturo gatti..he boxed his ears off in route to a stoppage. Fighters who stand toe to toe..fight after fight..night after night..usually do so because that style best suits them or they dont have the natural ability or skills to fight any other way. If I have the natural boxing ability & fight IQ of a mayweather why would I stand & slug every fight..rather than intelligently winning my bouts?? Nonetheless, he doesnt "run" b/c he is usually right in front of his opponent and still doesnt get hit w/ good shots. Running is what de la hoya did against trinidad in the last few rds of their clash. Ya'll got it F'd up..for real.

Tell Calzaghe to Move to Heavyweight and lets see if he trades with those guys or not. Calzaghe is a good fighter but very arrogant.

One man's arrogance is another's supreme confidence. And unless you have confidence in yourself then you have no business being in the ring.

Anyway, Mayweather's comments were a slight on an attack on Hatton rather than anything else. You'd have to be a special kind of ****** not to see that.

Calzaghe and Hatton have always seemed to get on rather well. I'd be amazed if he didn't back his boy up in the runup to this fight. Given the thawing of relations between Warren and Hatton I wouldn't be surprised to see more support from his fighters.

Well, it looks like he'll be moving to light heavy soon, especially if he loses the Kessler fight.

I think boxing does need entertaining, controversial fighters who promote fights intensely.
Quiet, respectful fighters are good for the sport, but Im not exactly sure thats what boxing needs right now.
