I think the way to beat Pavlik is to put pressure on him and get him out of there quick. Otherwise he will hurt and KO his opponent. Hopkins is a great fighter and he could win, but I think he would fight too cautiously to win and would eventually be KO'd. I better matchup for him would be against Calzaghe. I would like to see Allen Green vs Pavlik.

      Hopkins? Calzaghe?

Lets have Kelly clean up the middleweight division first. The fighters (Calz, Bhop, Winky) are Hall of Famers in their twilight. I am not saying they couldn't beat Pavlik, they would all be interesting but Pavlik need to get there just like they did.

How about names like Art Abraham (23-0), Sturm (28-2), Giovanni Lorenzo (25-0)? Spend 2008 proving he is the middleweight champ. Maybe Wright, but stylistically, it doesn't look good for Winky. Hopefully, his work rate will go up when he gets back to 160.

De La Hoya, Wright, Hopkins, Calzaghe are great champions who are fighting for money and their legacy. They all spent time fighting the best of their division and now Pavlik should do the same.

First time posting, but I read this thread often. I was suprised someone hadn't mentioned this yet, but I thought it had to be said.

Pavlik needs to focus on clearing out his division first before going any higher. He'd get whupped by both Calzaghe and Kessler. He'd probably take Hopkins and Winky though.

Arum is an a$$, Pavlik needs to worry about beating Taylor first, a victory there is not a given

Don't try the old condescending remarks like I am some kind of ****ing novice.
THE FACT is Hopkins has not fought anyone with the power or will to win of Pavlik in the last 15 years.
The only other young hungry fighter who was his own size beat him and that was Taylor.
Hopkins has beaten mediocre fighters at best like Howard Eastman & Robert allen for ****s sake.
In his "reign" he fought a long list of who?
His most notable wins are against 2 blown up Welterweights in Oscar & Tito.
Pavlik is a whole different kettle of fish.
I really don't get the Hopkins Fantasy Legend.
The other thing is if he were to lose to Pavlik now then the excuse would be there for him .......he's too old.
Hopkins was fortunate to be in a division with no other stars to shine.
The one that did moved up and on to better things and he lost to RJJ.

Don't hold your breath for this **** to happen. Hopkins-Calzaghe is more appealing to me, plus Joe will be done with his fight in November, and Taylor-Pavlik won't be until February.
