Schaefer Says Pacquiao Got a Fair Deal

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao got “a substantial amount and a fair deal” for his rematch with Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas last October 7. [details]

Tensions between GBP and Top Rank will resurface in regard to Pac's next opponent.

GBP will want JMM or Guzman, if he beats Soto.
Top Rank wants David Diaz, not suprisingly because he is one of their fighters.

Promoters aside, I hope he fights either JMM, Juan Diaz or Valero. Any of those works very well for me.

WBC head man Sulaiman said that Marquez's next defense must be against Pacquiao.

After that he will probably fight Soto or Guzman, and then he will move up to 135. That's my opinion anyway.

While I'm glad the WBC is trying to force the issue, that rarely results in making a fight happen unless the other fighter wants it too, and we don't know that Pac wants to fight JMM. Not because he's ducking him, but because he may want to move up or fight Valero instead (which he is quoted as saying in the last couple weeks).

So while the WBC can try to make JMM fight Pac, it can't make Pac fight JMM.

Let me go on the record:

I asked the question of whether GBP is really good for THE SPORT beyond merely the pricipals of GBP. You bitches got your panties all bunched up.

The Pacquiao-Barrera fight had revenues of $17 million and paid out purses of under $7 million.

The Mayweather- Baldomir fight had revenues of $17 million and paid purses of about $12 million.

Wasn't $8 million of that JUST for Mayweather? Or wasn't it $8,000,001 'cause the guy wouldn't fight for anything less than that since he had turned down the same amount ($8 mil) to fight Margarito. Nowadays I doubt he'd fight for anything less than $12-$15 million.

It seems unfair to pay Mayweather $8 million to fight and Pacquiao and Barrera only $2 million. But Pac and Barrera are fighters and will fight for what is given to them...Mayweather got spoiled by HBO who paid him $3 million to fight just about anybody.

About this article though...who gives a **** whether Manny got paid a fair amount or not?!?!?! He fought didn't be??? So as far as I'm concerned, if he signed the contract and went through with the training and fight, he was satisfied with his purse money! I don't see any problem. Only another useless article by this writer.

Actually, TEN million of it was for FMJ after all the receipts came in. But Baldo also earned a career high. So I don't think Baldo/Sycuan were complaining.

But you touched on my point. The two fighters have generated the same sales (PBF/Pac). Floyd gets ten mil because he is a promotional free agent, and Pacquiao gets 2,3,4 Million because promoters are getting rich off him.

I'm impressed. You were able to get internet access from the side of the freeway while you sell bags of oranges.
