I think its time to realise we may be witnessing something special:

If Floyd blows out Paul Williams, we would all give him a bunch of credit. But if P-Dub doesn't go on to redeem himself, then that credit was undeserved.
Good point.
Here is what I "expect" Mayweather to accomplish in order to cement his ATG legacy:
1) Beat Hatton
2) Beat winner of Cotto/Mosley
3) Go 2 out of three vs Cintron/Williams/Berto/other young lion.
A career that includes those guys, and ends at 42-1 across five weight classes would satisfy me.
He would have beaten the best at 135 (corrales, chicanito, manfredy, chavez), the best at 135 (castillo), the best at 140 (hatton), the best at 147 (see above) and the best (?) at 154 (oscar).
HOW ABOUT YOU? can you live with that?Comment

I say he needs a rematch with Arturo gatti, carlos baldomir and Emanuel Augustus to get in the hof
and a final fight with this guy to seal his legacy;

Next time that you are looking for guys with ridiculous records, just search boxrec for "Ricky Hatton", then scroll down.
You'll find stuff like this:
Karl Taylor: 16- 104 -6
David Thompson: 8 - 25 - 3
Mark ramsey: 19-41-6
Listen, guys. You are fighting a losing battle if you try to defend Hatton's record. Whether it was Warren's fault, or the limited pool in Englan, his record isn't as good as Floyd's. Even with more fights. There can be no dispute here. Everytime you bring up Mayweather's record, I will find something ten times worse for Ricky. Let it be.
Don't focus on Floyd's record or level of opposition. Your position SHOULD be that "Ricky has earned his way up. He has beaten some solid guys, and some former greats. This Mayweather bout will be the highlight and the biggest opportunity of his career. I'm a Hatton fan, and I am confident that his hunger and style will help him succeed".
BOOM. Nobody can criticise or argue that. Then we can talk about the actual fight. That is what a normal fan says. But because you guys are so racist/unreasonable/rabid/etc, you put Mayweather supporters in the position to belittle your man. And there's plenty of ammo to do that.
See, by criticizing FMJ as "overrated", you minimize your man's potential accomplishment. Hatton would either lose to, or beat, and "overrated fighter".
If you say that Floyd is a modern great, then hatton will either lose to (no shame) or beat (hooray!) a modern great.

Well, it depends. What portions are you talking about?
If he only does #1 and #2, then it's incomplete for me.
If he does #1, #2, and then beats Witter, I'll consider that.
If Floyd loses to Hatton, then he isn't an ATG.
If Floyd beats hatton but loses to Cotto but beats Cintron and Williams, then his legacy is still sound.
Moofo, you'll have to give me more specifics.Comment

We don't know for certain that Cotto is "better" than Hatton. But Cotto is bigger (yes, that counts), perceived to be stronger, and appears to be a more versatile fighter than Hatton.
For example: Cotto is a slight favourite to beat Mosley. Do you think that Hatton would be favoured to beat Shane?
If Cotto and Hatton were fighting next month, who would be favoured?Comment
