your forgetting 1 BIG detail, Baldomir was the recognized Champion at WW so Floyd HAD to run threw him for the belt, on top of that there were people actually giving Tata a chance in that fight. Margarito could have taken on someone in the likes of Collazo, Quintana or Julio he didn't have to take on such an outmatched foe if there is nothing more than just another W to gain from it, he may as well have given Joshua Clottey the rematch to clear up those broken hand doubts, he opts to face Golden Johnson who is tough in his own right but clearly not in the level of Margarito, Margarito can look phenomenal and destroy Johnson but who can't see that coming? Ring #9 Oktay Urkal doesn't have **** to do right now.
Ring #7 Luis Collazo hasn't signed a fight for the future as of now.
Ring #2 Paul Williams doesn't have a fight.

In terms of keeping him at 147 to feast on smaller fighers.....yea. Smart managing. The guy has fought at 154, got his ass beat and moved back down to 147. That's smart managing in terms of making a guy look better then he actually is. In reality he is a natural 154lb fighter.

Other then that, no smart managing. The guy has been inactive and when he did fight he fought guys like Gomez who has 10 losses on a Top rank ppv.
Didn't fight for months again and then fights Clottey........then he waits it out until he is forced to defend his title against his mandatory.

You want to talk about fighters that dropped weight to compete with smaller fighters and like to point out Margarito. Yet Margarito started at 135. And guess what both Berto and Williams came down in weight to fight at welterweight. And Hopkins did the samething. So has Mosley you do remember he was fighting at 154 right and you know as an amature he fought at 139 pounds.

As for Gomez he is the only fighter to KO, Kofi Jantuah which gave him such a high ranking. So high that even the Ring Magazine had Manuel Gomez ranked inside there top ten when Margarito faced Gomez. I dare you to find me another fighter the ko'd Janutah.

I do aggree Margarito should me more active but what are you going to do.

You ask who is Golden Johnson. Then i can call you kid. He is a top contender that has been around for a long time. Again in contender status which hell, you and me even if we are boxers may never reach contender status but who knows. Johnson fought Mosley and gave him a fair fight, before he ran out of gas.

And as of lately knocked out, tko'd, a top prospect in Oscar Diaz was on a good winning streak. Which got him this fight here with Margarito.

So don't think Golden Johnson isn't worthy of fighting Margarito, its just that Margarito is too good, is too big and hits to hard for Golden Johnson to hang with.

i was always critical of Margarito but he stepped upto the plate to fight williams, had a lot to lose and not much to gain and it proved to be so
