Surprisingly, actual performances are not what affects the future pay per views. Here is why I say that:

Arturo gatti had FOUR fights-of-the-year. But he only had ONE ppv (mayweather).
Shane is perceived as an exciting/ballsy fighter. He can't carry a PPV.

    BY CONTRAST:

Everybody knew that Hopkins-Winky would be a technical snoozer. It STILL did much more than Cotto/Judah or barrera/marquez.

Floyd has been widely criticized for his past two fights. Yet, people will buy PBF-Hatton. And hatton wouldn't be in a big PPV without Floyd.

Cant wait to see how pissed you are when Cotto beats Mosley and becomes a huge star.
Fantasma, I respect tu orgullo as a boricua. But I've stated FACTS about Miguel Cotto. Don't insult me .

The Cotto-malignaggi fight did about 100K buys. OK, fine. That wasn't his fault.

The Cotto-Judah fight was HIGHLY promoted. It still did less than half of what PBF-Judah did. It did 180K buys.

Ok, you will say that Judah was inactive, and coming off losses. Great. But the fight wasn't about Judah. Cotto was supposed to carry that.

      Delahoya did 975K with mayorga.
      Mayweather did 400K with Judah.
      mayweather did 340K with Baldomir

If Cotto doesn't do 400K+ with Shane, then it is a failure. We'll see.

I think Kessler will probably go on to fight almost exclusively in the U.S. should he win against Calzaghe. Denmark is a small country and he's as big there as he's ever going to get so he must know it's in his best interest to move forward. He fought Mundine in Australia and is now fighting Calzaghe in his back yard as well which I give him a lot of props for doing so I don't think he'd have a problem not fighting exlusively in Denmark anymore.

Kessler is also a smart guy, I read somewhere that he recently turned down a multiple fight HBO contract and it seems to me he did this till after the Calzaghe fight when should he win, he would have a lot more leverage in negotiations with HBO. Smart dude should it go his way.

papo what's the main problem ppl are complaining today about boxing???....THEY WANT TO SEE EXCITING FIGHTS!!! its impossible to believed that actually ppl now are buying ppv because of the guys personality and smartness of talking or dizzing in a press conference or a countdown.**** is like saying Hitler conquering Germany because of his great charisma and speech but at the end they received chaos.

and what sup with the 180k?? didn't they said it was around 220k??? and plus a rising star like cotto vs a guy that yeah was undisputed champion but got beat by the best.i know cotto vs mosley will be another chapter and a greater one.

Arum said it was 225K and Arum was lying. It was well under 200K.

People do complain about wanting to see exciting fights. But it's just like politics: people complain about their politicians but when they get in the voting booth, they keep voting for the same guys.

I'm just telling you what the actual facts and real numbers are. People continue to "vote" for Oscar. Before Oscar/Floyd, the biggest fight was Oscar/Tito. Was that an exciting fight? Didn't Oscar run for four rounds without barely throwing a punch? Did the fans stop buying him?

People complained about how Floyd fought baldomir. And then even MORE bought Floyd/Oscar. People complained about how Floyd fought Oscar. And people will STILL buy Floyd/hatton.

            It is what it is.
