There is a difference between having your legs taken from you and being out on your feet. Pavlik had his legs taken from him. He knew where he was. He knew what was going on. Marquez was out on his feet. He didn't know where he was or what was going on.
POINT and CASE: REFs should let FIGHTS GO ON LONGER

not just when he went down, but when he got nailed on the side of the head and went sprawling across the ring, THATS when any other ref woulda stopped it IMOComment

That was a time it coulda been stopped, but he did seem to have his wits and was trying to fight back and defend intelligently. He did look bad though.. some refs mighta stopped it. Smoger definatly has a reputation for letting fights go.. if i remember correctly it was him who reffed at least the first Gatti-Ward fight. That fight shoulda been stopped, btw, in about the tenth when Ward had Gatti completly out, yet Gatti somehow managed to fight on.Comment

Absolutly correct. So we've had two fights in a row, McCline-Peter and Taylor-Pavlik, where one man is seconds and one big punch away from being stopped, but they rise from the deck to win.
Referees should let fights go on like this when they matter this much.
Far to often Refs step inbetween the fighters in a BIG and Meaningful fight when they clearly shouldnt.
I mean, the Boxing Scene right now would be SOOO much different if there were different refs in those fights.
Peter would have been "exposed" and "doesnt have any heart" and "This was the guy that was supposed to beat Maskaev?" type threads would arrive. I mean just bull****.
Then Pavlik would have gotten it much worse. He would have been "just another white kid" that was "overhyped" and "overrated"
Ive been saying this for years, nothing good comes from a premature stoppage.Comment
