POINT and CASE: REFs should let FIGHTS GO ON LONGER

So we've had two fights in a row, McCline-Peter and Taylor-Pavlik, where one man is seconds and one big punch away from being stopped, but they rise from the deck to win.

Referees should let fights go on like this when they matter this much.

Far to often Refs step inbetween the fighters in a BIG and Meaningful fight when they clearly shouldnt.

I mean, the Boxing Scene right now would be SOOO much different if there were different refs in those fights.

Peter would have been "exposed" and "doesnt have any heart" and "This was the guy that was supposed to beat Maskaev?" type threads would arrive. I mean just bull****.

Then Pavlik would have gotten it much worse. He would have been "just another white kid" that was "overhyped" and "overrated"

      Not agreed.

You see a fight from your seat, or from the view down a television tube.

its easy to judge when theres no responsibility for anything and your a thousand miles away at home.

I trust the 3rd man in the ring, whose in spitting distance. He sees things we don't and ultimately its his decision and his conscience he has to live with if one fighter dies or becomes a vegetable through the fight.

Refs primary job - to ensure the safety of both fighters. You can't do that task AND let one man take a beating for the benefits of a crowds blood-lust or for the chance of an incredibly slim "what-if" he knocks him his opponent out by fluke.

Lol, yeah those are some decent points.. however, I hate it when a fight goes on too long, resulting in a horific KO which would've been prevented if not for incompetent officiating (though this is exactly what many fans-especially casual ones-tune in to see). I consider it more of a case that people are way to quick to underrate fighters based on a bad night. In the game of basket ball, you lose if the other team makes more baskets. In boxing, you lose when the other guy kicks your ass. Thus, it is much easier to look like **** in defeat. Boxers are humans and when they get hit in the right way on the chin they will be knocked out, no matter who it is.

It's true though, they stop fights way to quickly, which increases the amount of bull**** threads. But this is one of those questions that never have a defined response. What would you do if you were the ref lets say; Patera vs Griffin

they need a standard that cannot be debated for stopping fights

See, this is the problem right here. People are far to "safety" aware these days.

This is a hurt business. People are getting punched in the face... HARD.

Unless somebody has been taking an enourmous beating, or has taken enourmous beatings in the past, you dont stop the fight.

Point and Case MARQUEZ-VAZQUEZ II. I thought Marquez woulda been stopped anyway, but you have to give a champion like Marquez a chance to comeback.

We saw Pavlik and Peter comeback from far worse, so who knows?!

If we were THAT focused on the safety of fighters, then a cut would stop a fight automatically, and the fighters would be wearing masks.

The ref shouldnt have to stop every fight, the Fighter and his corner know the fighter best, they know his limits

Once a fighter has been concussed, it becomes far more dangerous for them to take punches.

well obviously, but Marquez wasn't "cuncussed"

And ur allowed to be dazed or wobbled or hurt. These guys are in TREMENDOUS condition, they recover EXTREMELY well.

The only fighters u see in tremedous conidition that DONT recover well, are those that have been beaten badly in previous fights, or in many was. Which i said.
