I trust the 3rd man in the ring, whose in spitting distance. He sees things we don't and ultimately its his decision and his conscience he has to live with if one fighter dies or becomes a vegetable through the fight.

Refs primary job - to ensure the safety of both fighters. You can't do that task AND let one man take a beating for the benefits of a crowds blood-lust or for the chance of an incredibly slim "what-if" he knocks him his opponent out by fluke.
Arsenal FC ***** and let the fight roll on like in the old days.

It all comes down to the refs. Refs should do their homework on fighters.
If a certain guy gets knocked down quite a bit - be a bit leniant.
If a guy is known to have a great chin - let the fight go on.

      etc.etc.

That may be a good point, though its problematic to have different standards for different fighters.. but for whatever reason, Corales for instance seemed very proned to be knocked down, yet he often would not seam particularly stunned when he rose.

Did u see the Golata-McBride fight???

THAT was a good stoppage because it was a meaningless fight. Mcbride is basically done as a fighter, doesnt have a future really, and Golata was just going to coninue with the beating.

Had that been for the Heavyweight Championship, TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE stoppage. see the difference?

Normally i would definetly agree, but where is Mcbride going as a fighter? Golata was really lying it on him and it wasnt gonna change.

Had it been a fight with importance it shoulda went on, because Mcbride showed he could hurt Golata in the first round

Oh, I don't believe for a second any ref would've stopped Pavlik-Taylor when Pavlik got knocked down. It wasn't even close to devestating or anything of the sorts.

Yeah, it looked very bad when he went down, but he rose and appearwed ok, so it was warrented for the fight to continue. I watched the fight after knowing the results, so that killed the suspense, but Pavlik pretty much looked through, yet he demonstrated true resolve and thus earned the right to continue, i thought. I think it woulda been a bad stoppage considering this.
