Would you like mayweather more if he was more explosive?
For me to answer the above question exactly as it's posed, I'd have to say "Not Applicable." To ask if I would like him more implies that I like him in the first place. To ask if he were more explosive presupposes that he's explosive to begin with. In short, I don't and he isn't.
On the other hand, if he were explosive, I'd probably like him! I never met an explosive fighter I didn't like...Last edited by Panamaniac; 10-05-2007, 09:09 AM.Comment
The thing is , you guys are so deeply envious of Floyd, that you either
a) make stuff up - I never did.
b) make claims about fights you haven't seen - I never did.c) exaggerate wildly - I never did.or
d) focus on things that have no bearing on a professional prizefighter. - I sometimes do, but if you read my posts I always gave him his dues inside the ring.
Do I expect a guy who weighs 148 to stand toe-to-toe with a guy who weighs 166? NO. Neither do I.
Do I care that mayweather throws money into the camera? NO. I DO CARE ABOUT THAT.
Do I think it is "wrong" for mayweather to belittle his opponents at press conferences? NO.
Do I care that Mayweather never fought Casamayor? YES. I don't take much away from Floyd for that fight, I do care that he didn't fight tzoo in his prime.
Do I think that Mayweather took the easy way out by fighting Hatton? YES, I do too. I think he should have taken on Mosley while he has something left in the tank. I think he could have taken on Hatton and Cotton in the future.
Do I think that mayweather will ONLY fight the big payday fights and not the fights that hardcore fans want? YES
Do I think that BoxingScene forum members act like whiny bitches? YESSome do, I don't consider myselft one
In all seriousness, I think it KILLS many of you to see a young, flashy, flamboyant, wealthy, bombastic black man doing it his OWN way.
How dare you accuse me of something like that. black, white, brown, yellow, doesn't matter to me. I just prefer the more humble guys.
The fact that he fights a WINNING fight rather than how YOU want him to fight kills you. Doesn't bother me at all.
The fact that he TELLS Gatti that he is a C+ fighter kills you. But it's true. Or TELLS Oscar that he will gas out in the later rounds kills you. But it's true. Or TELLS Hatton that he is one-dimensional kills you. But it's true.
It may be true, but a little respect for a fellow boxer doesn't hurt.
Anybody with half a brain has to know that Hatton only has a very small chance in this fight. When Mayweather wins a wide UD or the fight is stopped to get Ricky some more hemoglobin...will it REALLY surprise you? REALLY?
It will not surprise me at all, it would actually REALLY surprise me if he didn't.
But all the white and/or Brit posters will get on and they'll find some reason to whine. Or they will criticize Floyd's method of victory. Or they will claim some pyrrhic victory themselves. I'll wait for that. And chuckle to myself.
Thats a blanket statement, and I would have expected better than this from you.
You want FMJ to be something that he refuses to be. And you hate that.
PBF was fighting guys like N'Dou and Corley for $3 million. He has made $70 million IN UNDER THREE YEARS. Meanwhile, Margarito fought Williams for one point two mil. Who's the idiot?
If by something you mean more humble, then yes i do. i rarely criticised his choice of opponents.
You call him a coward, he is a runner, he sucks. There is even a thread on here that asks "how much it must hurt to be p4p and...". Are you kidding me?
I never called him a coward. I never questioned his p4p status
How much are you making this year? Are you anywhere near the best in the world at what you do? When's the lasttime you were on three TV shows? What do you drive? Are you and your family set for life? Are you living your dreams?
This shouldn't matter, but i make enough. I'm not set for life yet, but in a couple of years i will. And yes, I am living my dream. I have the family i always wished for, i'm debth free, i have a paid off home, i am able to take vacations every year, i own decent cars... I am happy where i am in life.
WOULD THE CHILD YOU WERE BE PROUD OF THE ADULT YOU ARE??
Yes he would, and my future self would be proud of the person i am as well.
WHAT IS THE SINGLE GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT OF YOUR LIFE?
Creating a perfect son.
You know what? PBF devoted his life to boxing and he is fabulously wealthy and considered the best in the world at it. Not too shabby.... How about you?
As the best at what he does, he has a lot of influence. He has the responsibility to set a certain standards, and act a certain way.
The kid has a ****load of flaws. But respect the resume.
Two national amateur titles.
Olympic medal (should have been gold)
Wins a legitimate championship at 20 y.o.
Continuously a champion for 10 years.
One of the best SFW's of all time.
Moved up to 135 and beat the best guy.
Questionable Win? Rematched immediately.
Moved to 140. Hatton turns down multiple offers.
Titles at 130, 135, 140, 147 and 154.
None of those belts were WBU, WBO, NABF, etc.
On the RING magazine P4P list FOR NINE YEARS.
ATOP that p4p list for three years.
Beats ODLH with a 20 pound deficit.
Un. De. Fea. Ted.
Hugely successful commercial fighter.
....all this while being one of the most unlikable fighters of his time.
He is certainly a unique fighter, no question about that. alot of it is talent, and the rest of it is a hard work. I think his arrogance and boasting contribues alot to him being unlikable.
I like Iverson. I like Floyd. I like Manny Ramirez. BECAUSE I LIKE THE WAY THEY PERFORM ON THE PLAYING FIELD. I could give a flying **** about hair or press conferences or "making it rain".Comment

Oscar used to be a welter weight. Just because he moved up to fight for more money doesn't mean his body changed its genetic code....There's nothing for him to finish. Floyd started his career at 130. All the way down at super featherweight....you're suggesting he could knock out a tough chinned Baldomir or a Zab Judah at 147? What about Oscar at a whopping 24 lbs above the men Floyd began his career fighting? He has weak, brittle hands and very little power at welterweight. Sure, he has the speed to load a guy up with combinations, maybe take them down from an accumulation...but power would definitely not be an attribute Floyd has at welterweight.Comment

Joe Calzaghe is notorious for throwing open-fisted punches... meaning it is a lot less likely that it will aggravate his injury.
Anyways, what is the big deal? If his hands are hurt, a KO is out of the question... because you would probably seriously injure your hand if you threw it full force at your opponent's skull... so why not be economical with your injured hands, and throw enough punches to win the the round and nothing more?
Oh right... strategy isn't allowed for Mayweather. He has to cement his feet to the floor and never block punches, all while trading bombs all night long. Otherwise he is a scrub who doesn't belong in the top 300 P4P fighters in the world.

I am shocked that an even fight against the #5 P4P guy in the world was not a threat.
Talk about revisionism. Jesus.
So should he have made the fight closer as to give Corrales some sort of credibility in your eyes? For ****'s sake, Corrales was elite at 130, and went on to be a great lightweight after that fight.
I guess George Foreman wasn't really a threat to Ali either.

how sure are you that his hands will break? which goes back to my orignal question. yes i would like him to be more explosive. calzaghe throws a lot of punches and therefore you can't say all of them are open handed. infact a lot of his straight left are full of power.Joe Calzaghe is notorious for throwing open-fisted punches... meaning it is a lot less likely that it will aggravate his injury.
