In a recent interview with the Long Beach Press-Telegram, promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank said that WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. should not be recognized as the top pound-for-pound fighter in the world. He feels that top spot should go to Manny Pacquiao. Further, he also said that Mayweather is not capable of beating WBA welterweight champ Miguel Cotto or Shane Mosley. [details]

bob arum has been around boxing for many years and he knows his stuff. it is clear to any real boxing fan that no way mayweather is #1. he never fights anybody good and he runs in fear from any real challenge like he did from margarito. his fights are boring and he doesnt care about giving the fans there moneys worth and giving them excitement. he would rather run all day and that is the coward way.
pacquiao is a true warrior and i give him all my respect. he will get recognized as the #1 p4p if he beats the legend barrera. -

If been saying for a while now that Pacman and Mayweather are 1 and 2 in my book, and i have no problem seeing one placed above the other.
That said, Arum and Roach are not at all credible comentators when it comes to this (well, Roach is more so than Arum as he tends to tell it like it is) as they are both on Pacquioa's team.Comment

Freddie said you cant be best p4p in the world if you cant knock guys out, well pernell whitaker didnt knock anyone out lol Ali has really 1 big ko on his record when he beat foreman but who else did he knock out who was worth knocking out?Comment

I don't either of them would beat Floyd. they would have a shot. But Mayweather is a smarter fighter than both I believe. And would be able to make better adjustments to pull off the victory.
Shane and Cotto usually fight their own fights. I haven't really seen them have to fight differently.Comment

ROBERT MORALES: Hey, Bob, what makes you say – we all know all the fighters you’ve been involved in, all the fighters you’ve seen, what makes you say that Floyd is the best fighter you’ve seen in 40 years other than the young Muhammad Ali?
BOB ARUM: Well, you know, there are a number of aspects that make a great fighter. One is speed. His speed is phenomenal. The way he throws punches, phenomenal. The way he is conditioned, phenomenal. I mean, he’s the entire whole package. And beside all of those skills, he is the – again, put Ali aside – and I was just those couple of years with Ali were, I mean, maybe because my eyes were younger then, but put Ali aside, other than Ali, he’s the most intelligent fighter that I have ever seen. I mean, Floyd, this is no bull****; Floyd can see a punch coming before the other guy knows he’s going to throw it. Do you understand that? I mean, I have never seen such ring intelligence that Floyd demonstrates.
And so he’s the whole package, and you know, Ray Leonard was a great fighter, Marvin Hagler was a great fighter, Duran certainly was great, Oscar had a couple of years where he was very good, but there’s nobody that is a whole package like Floyd.
