P4P becoming too much "What have you done lately?"

I am not at all discrediting big wins recently. I am just baffled at the Manny/Floyd dispute.

Manny's roundabouts with Marquez/Morales/Barrera may be considered greater than Mayweather's recent with DLH/Baldomir/Judah...

However I think people forget that P4P is also about (and in fact was created for) judging which fighters would beat who regardless of weight class...

Does anyone (those who stress Manny for #1 over Floyd) really believe that Manny would beat Floyd head to head regardless of weight class?

Again, I know P4P is subjective and everyone has a right to an opinion. I just think people forget that P4P is not ONLY about your last big win. It was created as a P4P head to head gauge as well.

    I see what you're saying and I think it's a valid point.

I'm not the biggest fan of Pacquiao's style, and I think there are limitations on Manny and an over reliance on improvised athleticism - but a 147 pound Pacquiao is nothing to sneeze at. If an explosive speedster like Zab Judah could connect with Mayweather and hurt him the chances are good that Pacquiao could do the same. Unlike Judah, Pacquiao would sustain his assault or possibly pick it up again in a late round explosion. He's active enough, powerful enough, and relentless enough to make it very interesting.

Regardless of that, I believe most people tend to refer to P4P in the context you feel is overemphasized for three reasons which are connected.

Firstly, styles can play a deceptive and misleading role in certain outcomes.

Secondly, the qualities and characteristics of heavier and lighter weight classes alter the topography of the logistics and aesthetics of each spectrum.

And thirdly, fighters of varying weight class will never actually engage in any reality based scenario which limits the dot connecting that is sometimes nescessary to understand certain outcomes and probabilities.
    A fights B fights C fights D, ect.

That would leave most of us guessing, losing each other, and generally straining our imagination past the point of being able to focus properly.

Again though, I think you make a valuable point.

People pay too much importance to P4P which is pure fantasy anyway.

So you think P4P means something do you?
I honestly don't see how you can measure it.
Please explain intellectually how it is measured please.

One thing to keep in mind also is Floyd could still make the 140 weight limit, thus only separating the two fighters by 10 pounds. I'm no Floyd fan but would definitely favor him if they met at a catch weight of 135.

Yeah it is. It should take into account your recent body of work But it shouldn't just throw away your past accomplishments.

Or if you lose in a competitve fight against a legitimate opponent you shouldn't drop completetly off the radar.

Just like rankings and every other aspect of the sport.

No one would be able to ever rank anyone.

Except for you, because you have everyone at #0, no one has ever accomplished anything in boxing under your standards.

A fair and up-to-date P4P has to give more weight to a fighter's most recent performances.
