The fact that it's a real sport with a rich history.

This weekend I watched the Kimbo fight which was torture, thank god it only last 19 seconds. We have an internet side-show fighting someone who looks like their previous career was in the WWF. Then we have representatives from a **** site coming into the right to congratulate Kimbo who is the then interviewed by a former WWF star (Goldberg). Then we have to listen to couple of cheesy commentators who sound like DJ's at a strip club. Trash.

The UFC needs promoters. Having Dana and the Zuffa brothers control everything is not good for the UFC. Boxing fights are a lot better hyped up than the UFC. Boxing has at least some type of legitimate ranking system and the UFC has none.

I FOR ONE KNOW FOR A FACT THAT UFC WILL NEVER HAVE ANYTHING ON THE SPORT OF BOXING. i watch both sports, but boxing takes more skill and training. i understand stryking and grappling, for i am a combatives instructor in the army. i am lucky to be around both sports, and basically anyone can become a ufc fighter, not everyone can become a boxer. i like both sports, but boxing does it for me, ufc is up and comming and alot better then when it was started in the 80's.

Boxing is better because it is closer to real life combat. You don't see real fights where the aggresor uses something other than punches to the front of the head and torso, so why bother using anything else in a sport? Also, it is boring to have to guess what tactics a fighter will use - it is more than enough fun to try to guess whether his punches will be aimed at the body, face, or possibly even the nose.

UFC has a strict rule set just like Boxing and the Marquess of Queensbury rules. But to the untrained eye it appears as if UFC has no rules, and that's why it appeals to so many people. The casual UFC fan sees the action as being closer to a street brawl. That's the unique selling point for the UFC IMO. The fighters are very well conditioned and skilled but I'm afraid the majority of UFC fans are in it for the brawl and beat down factor.

Personally I prefer boxing. Different sport so can't even really compare them.
