Boy! You have no idea what you're going on about! These perpetrators like Chuck 'Up' Lidell, Kimbo 'Banana' Slice and these other ex-con Bikies cannot rank anywhere near Dempsey or any of the 'Old School' warriors. FACT! Put these guys in the ring and they wouldn't last more than 1 round. MMA fighters are exhausted after 2 minutes of fighting. Let's see them go 15 - 20 or even 25 rounds?

I dont think Boxing is better than UFC, but a great boxing match demolishes the best UFC matches possible.

Unfortunately the sport is so full of either mismatches or runners and holders that great matches rarely occur.

        Please explain.
He trained with Ad Santel in wrestling and then later trained in Judo after retirement.

He also put out one of the first mixed arts manuals, before Gene LeBell.

I didn't see Dempsey choking the crap out of his opponents on the floor or wrapping his legs around opponents body! Dempsey did what he did best and that's putting opponents to sleep with his 'FISTS'! I cannot recall Dempsey putting his oponents to sleep any other way unless he fought MMA in another life! Please don't link Dempsey to MMA in any way! He was Boxing's Heavyweight Champion of the World and not MMA champ of the World!

Personally i prefer boxing because it is limited to throwing punches. Boxers trian to isloate the skills needed to hit and not be hit. The pure focus on this aspect of fighting makes the skill level incredibly high, and takes a lifetime to master.
And therefore is much more of a pure art form.

With MMA being spread out to so many diverse techniques and and skills, the fighters must train to be good at all aspects of fighting and therefore cannot focus all their attention of a singular disipline and are not able to truly master it.

Boxing was different back then, alot of boxers would grapple as part of their training. Look at Jim Jeffries he has a few videos where he is training in grappling does that make him a forefather of MMA also?

Im sure Dempsey trained with wrestled and did Judo after retiring, but that has nothing to do with modern MMA. I read Dempseys Auto Biography and he dosent talk much about Judo or Wrestling.

I understand where you're coming from.

Why I'm trying to say is that Dempsey was one of the first to take all the skills he had, be it boxing or wrestling or judo and he would form a basic strategy around them for certain situations. Sure, he was confident with his strking skills, but if there was anyway he was taken down, he also had a plan for that as well.

If Dempsey were around today, he would have the calber of a Kid Yamamoto or Gilbert Melendez.

If he did MMA of course.
