I actually really believe this is the guy can keep someone like Hopkins on the canvas. Same with Taylor, these two both trained really hard for this fight. If Taylor had another fight with Hopkins, I wouldn't be surprised if he ko'd Hopkins aswell. Hopkins is too old for me to favor him, that fight with him and winky was not entertaining at all and both looked old. It didn't look like just a crappy fight because of the two styles, it looked like a crappy fight because Hopkins/Winky looked like two senior citizens fighting

Actually I think Hopkins would get KO'd, he doesn't have the footwork Jermain have nor the same countering ability, he's good in clinches but so is Pavlik.
Have you seem Taylor-Hopkins, Taylor had hopkins in the ropes numerous times, imagine if that was Pavlik doing the damage.. Hopkins is not made of iron.

He dropped two decisions against a bad matchup. He won an easy decision in an easier fight, and I thought a controversial one against Winky. Hopkins is tricky, but those who think he's still a top p4p fighter are overimpressed by certain niceties of the sport. He's an old man and and he could get hurt.

Not out of the question, but I don't see what would lead people to believe that Hopkins' chin couldn't stand up, nor do I understand your assertion that Jermain is a better counter puncher. No offense of course, but that's absurd (the latter comment)..

Well I'm judging their countering abilities based on their recent fights.
Hopkins has right hand counter over the top that's about it, Jermain combos your head off. And Hopkin's power is starting to fade.. Pavlik makes you work, at this point I don't see Hopkins making it to round 12.

If Hopkins is such a bad ass, then he should try to shoot for a fight against Pavlik or Taylor. After Pavlik and Taylor have their rematch, but by then Hopkins will be retired, but personally I think Hopkins is finished no offense of course

One of the problems with out-boxing Pavlik is the fact that Pavlik works from the outside behind a BOMB of a jab.

A puncher with a chin, and heart, that works behind a jab, and has a very high output is a very dangerous man.

Hopkins is effective because he gets people to stop punching by selling them feints.

You are not going to feint Pavlik into not punching, because his reaction is to punch more.

A younger Hopkins with a higher output probably could have decisioned Pavlik pretty easily, but the Hopkins of today is just too inactive to do anything other than survive the fight.

I think this would be a good fight. I'm curious to see how these 2 guys would match up once they got in the ring. Hopkins is still a great fighter even at his current age. Pavlik impressed the hell out of me last night with Taylor.

Fair enough. I just found that a bit odd because Hopkins smothers you and his counters are crisp because you don't usually see them coming. Taylor's looping and chopping counters are easy to avoid by someone with any kind of head movement or tight guard (like Winky, even though he got hit a lot). I know people count Hopkins out because of age, but the prospect of this fight seemed interesting since Hopkins has still never lost convincingly, even up to this stage, and if people can discuss Hopkins/Calzaghe, then surely an old Hopkins should have a good shot at beating Pavlik..

bhop is just too slick but pavlick hits harder than you think and it goes rds after rds until you'll get slowed a beaten up. this guy never gets tired and hits harder as the rounds gets longer.
