    Does Hopkins outclass Pavlik?

After viewing this most recent fight , I'm under the impression that Hopkins would definitely be able to box Pavlik to a U.D.. Firstly, keeping in mind Hopkins-Taylor 1 also, even at this stage in his career I'd say that he has a much better chin than Taylor does. He's also much better at avoiding straight right hands and avoiding pressure. Pavlik is very easy to hit and Hopkins' little lead right should hit its mark every time, right before he dips out to mix it up. But I still wonder how Hopkins would be able to take a clean shot from someone like Pavlik, even though he's been in there with a true light heavyweight in Tarver, he didn't get hit too much..

    No, he would not.

Hopkins will be very cautious and try to make it a borefest. Pavlik will be chasing him around the ring and land his broomstick of a jab.

I think Pavlik could and would beat him.

Make no mistake, outboxing pavlik is really hard, he throws a lot of punches and Hopkins's workrate has been pretty damn abysmal lately.

Your last sentence says it all...

Hopkins won't be hit cleanly and has the size to stand up to Pavlik. He won't KO Pavlik because that's not his game this stage in his career...but he will make Kelly miss and land a lot

Right now, Bernard could get into a ring with a bear and win it on points. He's just so damn crafty.

Yes, Kelly won't land a clean shot against hopkins who will confuse and frustrate him. Kellp is VERY active though so he could pull one out Like Jermain is if he remains active for the full 12.

                Good assessments..

PIPBoy 2000, I agree that Pavlik would be pretty hard to box circles around, but albeit Hopkins' lack of athleticism compared to Taylor, he is a much better boxer than him. He's also bigger so those same shots would most likely not hurt Hopkins (as bad), most likely taking the fight to decision. You're suggesting that Pavlik can win a decision against Hopkins, no? Though a KO is possible, I don't see it on either side..

I will repost the same thing I posted in the other thread:

There is only one thing (maybe two, the second being a lot of side movement) Hopkins cannot deal with at this stage of his career: activity. Pavlik brings a lot of activity. Prime Hopkins would have stopped him, 40yo Hopkins would lose a decision. He would have his moments hurting Pavlik, and be relatively unscarred at the end of the fight, but he would lose the D.

Hopkins is virtually the same size as Taylor(I think even shorter) and nothing tells me that Pavlik can't win a decision against Hopkins. Roll back to Hopkins's fight against Taylor, how did Jermaine beat him? By being simply more active then Hopkins. Pavlik is even more active so then Taylor, which at this stage would be very hard for Hops to counter against. Yeah, he will miss a lot but he will land a lot too. And a good occasional counter by Hopkins is NOT gonna win him this fight.
