Mayweather's best win at 140?

D: Just saying that assessing him at 40 is silly because his best win still is only a B win no matter who one picks. As to 'funny' reigns...the Judah win was not a reign. That balt was tash can toilet paper. Baldo was THE champion. Period. Nothing funny there.Comment

I know Baldomir was the champion. But he was on a long, long list of titlists who have held some ****ty ABC trinket of a belt for a fight, or two. Wouldn't call him elite fighter by any stretch. Would you?Comment

you're dead wrong on your analysis. baldo earned the right to fight for the lineal title. he was undefeated for 9 years so he earned his shot against judah. stop trying to knock baldo because floyd handled him easily.I know Baldomir was the champion. floyd was not a paper champ at 154 since there is still no ring champ at that weight. at 154 he would be favored to beat any of the top 3 at that weight.Comment

Earned the right? Nahhhh. He was supposed to be a powder puff puncher that Zab Judah was supposed to feast on. If you look closely, after Judah's loss to Tszyu he was matched extremely carefully by Don King and was matched up against feather dusters. look at box rec if you dont believe me.you're dead wrong on your analysis. baldo earned the right to fight for the lineal title. he was undefeated for 9 years so he earned his shot against judah. stop trying to knock baldo because floyd handled him easily.

And he still got dropped on his ass.
Baldomir didn't really 'earn' the title shot the hard way. Name a single good win (minus that bogus win over Clottey) that warrented a title shot and i'll get off your case.
I give Baldomir all the credit in the world for coming on strong at the right time in his career - but he is not an elite fighter by any stretch. Sorry.Comment

Al, Aguzum and Rodriguez (especially Rodriguez who had cracked the top ten and was a big favorite) were all solid wins. Should he have been a mando? Hell no, but he got the shot and he won. Period. He was no less THE champ than guys like Buster Douglas or Steve Cruz. He was the lineal, true champion and Floyd beat him. Done.Comment

I wasn't just assessing his reign at 140... I was just curious what people thought... because I was bored when I was judging a debate round for my former high school, and I was thinking about it... and I couldn't come up with a definitive answer. Ya know?
No, Baldomir wasn't an elite... but regardless, even if him getting all those championships was a fluke, Floyd beat the guy he beat, so... Floyd pretty much gets to claim the 147 throne IMO.Comment

Question: What makes his championship at 130 more legitimate than his championship at 154? He didn't have The Ring belt at either weight class... he only had the WBC belt in both weight classes. When he beat De La Hoya at 154, De La Hoya had won that belt from Mayorga, and it wasn't a vacant belt... I think his championship was better at 130 too, but I was curious as to why you rank one above the other.Comment

Good posts in here, Azteca. And it's not like I have sour g****s about the situation. Floyd called Gatti a 'paper' champ. Doesn't that make him a paper champ if he wins against the paper champ? I remember Larry Merchant called him out on that.
Anyway I think Corley has good skills but no pop and he is weak as hell. The punches he hit Floyd with after he stunned him were like little girl slaps. He should of really considered going south 5 lbs. He had great talent (I believe he was an olympic alternate) but that does not always mean a great professional fighter.Comment
