I see Pavlik coming out in the first few rounds like a bull and maybe even hurting Taylor, but as the fight goes on I see Taylor gaining the upper hand and eventually winning a fairly comfortable points decision, by about 4/5 rounds. As many have pointed out I've found it very hard to predict but I just see Taylors greater experience being the key in this one.
I like Taylor by a unanimous decision here. This should be easy work. Taylor is the more experienced and established of the two boxers. In my judgement, Pavlik is just a bit too raw and crude at this point of his development.
This is the toughest fight of the year to predict.
I say Taylor proves too quick for Pavlik and forces him to reduce his workrate. But Pavlik has to eventually land something and after he does he domeinates the rest of the fight. Tayor though by close contestable decision. Isn't that what happens in every fight of his?
I think this is the intelligent prediction. Taylor has just faced the MUCH higher level of competition. I think he will be well-trained and motivated for this fight.
Well Emanuel stated that there will be no more Taylor with his hands dropped. I disagree I think he does well technically for the earlier rounds. But as soon as he starts getting hit he'll try and fight Pavlik's fight. At that point I expect Pavlik to KO him somewhere around the 8th or 9th round. Becuase Taylor has issues with the weight. And he badly needs to move up. Taylor gets noticeably fatigued in the last half of the fight. I think if he's not consistently fighting the right way (as in jabbing, keeping his hands up, staying out of the corner, etc.) Then we will see Pavlik's power start to bother him.
With that said I think Pavlik has to knock him out. With the way Jermaine's fights have been scored you are gonna have to emphatically take the belt away. I will be surprised if Pavlik gets the decision. Not because he can't but if Jermaine stays close and competitive, then I think the judges will favor the champ.
So my final prediction is that Pavlik wins by KO. One thing I will say is definite is Taylor has no chance of KOing Pavlik. You can call me out later on that if you want. And if I am wrong I will admit it.
Taylor's been in with the better competition but he'll have to listen to Stewart in order for him to be an asset. If Taylor listens to Manny and stays in the middle of the ring, flicking that jab, he wins an easy UD. If, however, he decides to stay near the ropes, I expect Kelly to KO him in 8.
I'm still picking Taylor to listen to his corner, tho, and make it an easy UD victory.
After going back and forth for a week now and leaning towards Taylor, I've got to go with my 'gut' instinct here...
I'm picking Pavlik to win via mid to late round TKO. After rewatching Pavlik-Miranda, I realized that Kelly's remarkable composure, his granite chin, combined with his high workrate and his punching power will prove too much for the smaller and lighter hitting Taylor. I think Kelly has a sound game plan and will adjust to any of Taylor's tactics to get the KO.
And that's another point here; you guys all know that Pavliks going to gunning for the knockout rather than the decision and this will be a big factor in the fight...
