Pemberton seemed like a natural to me. He had great genetics to be a great fighter. Skinny and lanky but looked like he had very dense bones and was extremely chiseled. Strong ****er I take it... I remember he started around 19 or so wasn't it. I remember reading this prior to the Lacy fight.

What kind of dough did Ray get for sparring. He helped some guys out in there camps i take it???
He always had a side gig...and still dont have a driver license. Not punchy in the slightest. Scully was in the Ams when Ray was in the Am's. Everyone from home knows Scullys name. Prolly from sparring sessions.

He started boxing when he was a wee lad and only had like 14 Ams fights. His dad was pretty good too. Like 60 Am's wins. Heard his uncle was the baddest of them all but got killed over some heavy **** in Fall River.

Turned pro in his mid to late 20's I think. If you saw him in real life you'de think he was the farthest thing from skinny. Hes like a fight weight shriveled 200/lb beast. He would walk around about 190/lbsish....and higher. Very menacing.

Dunno what Ray got as I mostly hung and got rides w/Pem. I saw Pem get paid like 40$-60$/fighter. Not much.

I sparred Ray about 3-5x and the last in prep for the Vivian Harris fight.

    Where are you from?

I mean for 168 he looks real skinny. Im sure he looks real different on camera but he does look like a beast. Tell me some info Ray has told you about Hatton. Hatton really outboxed the **** out of him. That was a good fight. What was Ray's thoughts???

Well for starters...Ray was fighting w/a neck injury for a few years that he didnt tell anyone about...his last years. Plus he was old and close to the border if not directly in shot city. Dudes got mad kids to support and needed to fight. Rays last notable fight was him beating Vivian Harris. Anything after that was chasing.

He said Hatton didnt hit all that hard [cuz I asked about Hattons power and dirt tech] and that he was slick and crafty. Thats just about as verbatim as your gonna get. He said if his neck wasnt so facked it would have easily went to the cards.

All this talk about how hard Hatton hits is bull****. Uk hype lies...they is even saying Hatton hits like 850 compared to Marcianos 925 on the punch test. Hatton hits as hard as Marciano....get ****ed...lol.

That would probably explain that weird fiasco when he fought augustus late in his career.

And agree with you about Hatton. I already know he does not hit that hard. He barely even turns over his shots. ALot of them are choopy, clubby shots. He is a great body puncher though.

Quite a few have sparred with Pro's.
I myself have only sparred with an AM fighter.
He used to spar with Arron Pryor.

Yeah, I've sparred with some average PRO's but I've sparred some awesome AM's. The main difference I would say for me was the PRO's knew a few tricks/ I wouldn't say dirty as such, just with where they would place their feet in relation to yours. Where as AM's where always trying to be flashy & Slick so they'd get noticed.

                  Yep in the 90's.

                  Derek Angol
                  Glenn McCrory
                  Terry Dunstan
                  Adrian Dodson

I did OK, McCrory (Birtley Boys Club) was probably the best of the bunch with very fast hands and good movement.

I've sparred with people who became pro's afterwards.
One which was ranked as top 5 in the world at the time in the AM's, welterweight class. He beat Oleg Saitov pretty clearly in the european championship, but got robbed. He even knocked him down in the 2 round. (Saitov is two-times olympic champion)

Needless to say, I got severely spanked as I pissed him off with a picture perfect left hook. Don't think my feet actually touched the ground in those two rounds...
Well, that was a long time ago, while I was still green.

The other one I have fought 3 times in the AM's, losing all three mainly because I had bad stamina.
Knocked him down in one though, were the ref counted to 9... If only there had been 10 more seconds left of that fight......

The first one, Anders Styve, turned pro and got on with it well for awhile. Spanking Philip Holiday over 6 rounds in his 5th fight.
He got problems with his eyes though which requiered surgery, but they never healed sufficiently. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...0021&cat=boxer

The other guy, Nikita Dubunin, has just got started with his career, winning his first 7 fights, and one draw.
