Its wrong. Who said that? Actually, dude is real quiet.

Sucra is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. If your in the gym w/him and want sparring he wont take it easy on you and might not even do it. Hes nobodies punching bag. Dudes got a few hundred ams fights and been in the game for decades.

I sparred w/him in prep him for the Vivian Harris fight. Theres talk he cant crack an egg....more poppy****. We traded hooks in the center of the ring and I been in there w/guys that can ****...lets just say Ray rung my bell.

I was talking to a guy close to the game. He had about 4 pro bouts when he sparred Ray in preperation for a fight. He was telling me he was real arrogant and was saying some assholish comments to some of the rookies in the gym. the greenhorn's.

Greenhorns...haha. We're all greenhorns from that area...mostly. Is it someone from here? Cuz this kid that trained in a gym that Ray sparred @ w/Jose Colone got it all wrong. I trained in the same gym as Colone...**** i remember his 1st days in the gym.

The story I heard from Fantasma was after Ray "didnt do to well" w/Colone that Fantasma wanted to do a round. Ray said "I dont do honors kid" and something about hitting a bag. Ray was right in both senses. When I trained w/him or anyone else that was pro @ the PAL it was known to show respect and get off any bag they want after the round.

If Ray didnt do too well its cuz hes old and shot. Colone showed signs of talent but is doing a bid now and wasnt super talented. Pires smokes him in talent and Ray used to **** on Pires. Barrows used to **** on Pires...well Barrows is another case. Prolly the best amatuer to come out of NB.

Thanks for clarifying. It was a guy that I talked to actually on a message board. A very exclusive message board that has alot of ex refs, former fighters etc. great boxing site with extremely knowledgable guys ... especially about the old timers.

anyway, whats new with ray???? You still train?

Nah...finishing my masters. I could have went pro and Sucra was actually training me after I left the PAL, but I thought I didnt have big enough talent and Pemberton and Ray werent making the kind of dough I'de make w/a degree soo.

I was to fight Manfredo in 98'ish but ****ed my shoulder up in a street fight. Would have beat him too...he went on to some big money...but **** it. Got some great memories of competition and the guys from the gyms.

I got back into it a year ago and sparred a soon to be crowned kickboxing champ. I did good but I got tendonitis now like in both elbows. Just found out I got bone spurs too...wrist and elbow. So I'm out of the gym atm...for a while actually. Prolly forever.

Add Tony Ventura to that list too...former ISKA champ.

Nice. What kind of dough was Sucra making, just out of curiosity? He has 50+ fights - was he living comfortable or did he have a second job.

And pemberton did OK. Coke on the side and a professional boxing career. Not bad.

Actually Ray made headlines recently by knocking out 2 guys while he was managing a W.O.W...Work Out World. They deserved it...but the dudes got a temper and got fired. He said he wanted to make 50 wins and played around w/a comeback. Hope he dont. Hesa really good guy.

Pemberton on the other hand is caught up in another drug scandal...wire taps etc etc.

Wasnt as much as coke as other ****. Hes kinda punchy too...sad. We were pretty tight for a while but had a falling out around 02'...looks like for the better. Theres some shocking info about the PMj fight I wont mention here. Truth.

You'de be shocked to hear that the Hatton fight was Rays biggest payday. He had a fight set up w/Hoya back in the day when Hoya was coming up...I heard 250k but Libby [PAL trainer] said it was a cool mill. Ray got into some dum ass legal troubles [which I wont mention out of respect], and hence never signed the fight. I wont get into numbers but the biggest payday I heard Ray made besides the Hatton fight was 5 figures and almost all of it went to back child support.

Nobody wants to see anyone do good where we're from and alot of this **** fell on both of these fighters shoulders. Itsa shame really how champs are treated.

If Pemberton would have been more consistent he could have been a all time great. He only fought like 1x/year. Plus he started pro late. The guy was super talented. He dropped Vargas like a sac of **** @ Big Bear. Vargas said Pem was the hardest hitting guy he ever fought.

I got stories of them fighting back to back @ some **** hole dance club. I also got Pemberton sparring Sheika on VHS before they fought in Providence. Rooney ill screaming from ringside...funny.

Funny about Ray. so I take it he ended up having to work on the side?? is he punchy at all. He takes alot of punishment but dished out a hell of a lot. How did he hook up with Russ Anber? And Scully also? You guys have sparred each other I take it???

Pemberton seemed like a natural to me. He had great genetics to be a great fighter. Skinny and lanky but looked like he had very dense bones and was extremely chiseled. Strong ****er I take it... I remember he started around 19 or so wasn't it. I remember reading this prior to the Lacy fight.

What kind of dough did Ray get for sparring. He helped some guys out in there camps i take it???

I heard on another message board, from someone said that they trained in the same gym as Pemberton, that they heard that the fix was going to be in for the Pemberton - Manfredo Jr. fight. I try to ignore these things, because you never know if there is any truth, but then I saw the fight and the knockout looked pretty su****ious to say the least, so it got me wondering. And now I hear this about "shocking info"...
