Pernell Whitaker is overrated on these forums

Now I'm not saying he is not a great fighter. He is but people are so pumping him up now that he is retired and most of them only saw Youtube highlights of him and parrot what other people are saying about him. I just had to say this after I read the "who is better, floyd or pernell" thread. Pernell is being so pumped up high it kind of reminds me of the The Mike Tyson hype train that when at his best.......he was unbeatable. Anyway this isn't about Tyson it's about Pernell and being compared to Floyd mayweather.

Floyd is obviously better. Yes I said obviously and let me explain. Floyd's defense is better for longevity. Pernell's defense was great too but it was totally different and it worked based on pure reflexes and athleticism. Once he got older his defense wasn't as effective anymore . Smoking Crack didn't help either. Floyd's defense would work even when he is past his prime just like Hopkins's and Winky's defense.........It's more based on fundementals then natural ability.

Offense......again floyd is a lil better overall. More punching power then pernell even as he keept moving up in weight. Pernell was always on a Pauli Malinaggi, Cory spinks level of punching power.

And let's not forget the overall phisique....Floyd is 5'8 with 72" reach and Pernell is only 5'6 with a 27" reach. A great big boxer always beats a great little boxer. Pernell with his reach and height would have to have a totally different style to bother floyd.

hes not OVER RATED... he was great.... but people do get a little carried away when they talk about him

if youre talking head-to-head matchup, Id say Whitaker wins. Judah was giving Mayweather a tough fight with his speed and southpaw stance until he started falling apart.
Now put Whitaker in Judahs spot, except let now he has an outstanding jab(Judah doesnt really stick his out there), excellent body punching, a much better defence, and he wont ever wear down throughout the fight. if theres one punch Mayweather gets grazed with a lot, its that jab. I would favor Whitaker, personally.

and usually you judge a fighter while theyre in their prime, not when they wear down and lose their reflexes, so why bring up that point? and we still have to see what Mayweather becomes in old age. I think he would be kind of like James Toney after a while. but we'll have to see...

and Pernell's record is amazing, wat else do you want? most people have seen his fights with McGirt II and Chavez in full, McGirt fight is on ESPN classic all the time. same with the Azumah Nelson fight. those are all HOF fighters, and he wiped them out. I mean, he beat them very dominately. you dont see that happen much...
so i dont really get why hes overrated.

About the Judah fight, Judah didn't fall apart Floyd MADE him fall apart, Floyd kept pressuring and attacking the body until Judah wilted, people make it seem like Judah just smashed him and got tired from beating Floyd's face in to much.
