Mayweather: Dancing with the Thugs

Anyone that thinks Floyd acts like a thugh is an ill informed ignoramus. It's easy to say that when you have no idea how a THUG acts like, it's foolish to say he acts like a thug because he wears ***elry, hangs out wit fiddy and talks trash. That's not what a thug does, period.Comment

Did what to Cotto?
What your saying seems to support barlog's ideas about a double standard. If PM is an ****** it doesn't seem to get much attention. He may not be as over the top as floyd is though... I remember seeing floyd tell brian kenney that floyd could do his job better than he could. PM at least has a little more self control. Still, I think it might be safe to say that white athletes get at least a little more slack.Comment

What TRUTH is there in it?You may be taking that a bit far but i do think theres some truth in that. I can't think of too many white athletes who stir up such an emotional response for being overly ****y and disrespectful. I'm not a huge sports history guy so others might have better examples here, but Joe Namath comes to mind as being arrogant and flashy (with the fur coats and whatnot)... I don't know if he was as disrespectful as floyd and all that but he was and is pretty popular... and I've never really heard of him getting hated on.
With that said, its not really a defense of mayweathers character to say racism plays a part in some of the reaction to him. Personally I don't really care but he seems to be an ******. I still like watching him fight though... all it really means to me is I wouldn't want to hang out with him, which i don't expect to be an issue.
What was it about the article that suggested the writer feels inferior to Floyd because Floyd is a rich successful black man?
The article criticized Floyds attitude which many people are also irritated by. Nothing to do with he colour of his skin.Comment

The truth in it is that many people in society at large or maybe the mainstream press are quick to jump all over the flaws/ ****** actions of sucessful black athletes for things that they might let slide for white athletes. I don't think anyone denies that there are still racist people out there, and if some non-racist people are honest with themselves they might realize that they have some stereotypes that impact their thinking/ actions in ways they don't always recognize. What TRUTH is there in it?

I'm not saying thats the case with this author or any posters here in particular. Floyd gives people so much ammo... partly (I think.. and he's basically said as much) because he understands how much he gets under peoples skin and realizes that people paying to see him lose are still paying. So he plays up the image to the extreme... although who's to say when it stops being an image.
Anyway, when people react so strongly you kind of have to wonder why they care, to the point of being emotional, about someone they never met and who has no real impact on their lives. Especially when the reaction is inconsistent. I've never heard anyone going on about what an ****** pm is even though you guys say he's gotten out of line.
Since we're on the subject, look at the reaction to Michael Vick. I think what he did was disgusting and i have no respect for him, but I feel the same way about people who hunt deer for sport. Why is it that everyone is outraged about dogs being killed for entertainment yet thousands of people go out to kill deer and birds and whatever and thats fine? Would people have reacted the same if it was Peyton Manning involved in dogfighting? I honestly don't think they would have. [This topic has probably been done to death here and i'm not trying to go off on a tangent, just thought it was a good example]Comment
