Why is Hatton so much more popular than Lennox, Hamed, Bruno, etc?

I can't agree with that I'm afraid. I can only guess that you met him just the once then! (pool hall by the Lescar pub per chance?)

Hahaha i disagree! he always seemed ok! But i knew a few of his pals, cos i was boxing in gyms, where they boxed...so maybe that was it.

Haha, when he was in the pool hall he was still shouting about how awesome he was! And your right...... he did seem to be getting punched in the pubs whereever he was. People used to try it on with him 24/7. He's got a big gob..probs is.. he is only 5ft 5.

Bruno was a ****. A ****ing cartoon character. He should have stuck to his HP adverts and Pantomimes. Damn he used to piss me off.

He was only a national hero cos he was a ****ing clown.

        My granny liked him though.

hatton is not and never will be as universally popular in the uk as frank bruno.

lewis on the other hand still wasn't entirely accepted by all uk fans towards the end of his career and hamed was hated and admired in equal measure.

i'd but hatton second after bruno in the popularity stakes.

A local lad who has far, far suppased peoples expectations...not just that!...but (YET AGAIN) he is the underdog going into battle with PBF... and everyone loves an underdog.

As for Hamed - he was and still is very accessible around Sheffield. I've seen him a number of times - shopping with his kids, eating in restaurants... i even bumped into Naz in a pool hall at about 3 in the morning. He's a nice guy.

I wouldn't say a prime Hatton is more popular than a prime Bruno though.
By "contained community", I mean it isn't Tokyo or London or New York.

A prime Bruno didn't have 20K fans traveling to watch him fight Tyson.

he fights at home, he is exciting and he wins..

Lewis fought for Canada and maybe that he is black. (I don't know.. you're asking for reasons,, so I'm guessing now)
Hamed is, what is he Indian?

whatever the case is.. I guess people see Hatton as "one of their own."
I really don't think the fanbase difference between Lewis and Hatton has anything to do with the colour of Lennox Lewis's skin... However, there was always the fact that he won Olympic gold as a canadian, but he still had, and indeed has, a huge fanbase in England. Frank Bruno questioned Lewis's right to call himself British when they fought, and it's a fact that Bruno had a bigger following than Lewis (in England). In fact i'd have thought than Bruno's fanbase came pretty close to that of Hatton's, and they are both likeable people, but the difference is in their fighting abilities. Obviously, Hatton is much more talented than Bruno was and he will gain more support due to this from the more knowlegable boxing fans IMO. That's not to say that Bruno didn't have that type of fan, but he wasn't the most gifted of fighters, and Hatton also has a huge following in Manchester.

Naseem Hamed also had a huge following... There may have been idiot racists that disliked him, but many disliked his attitude.
