Popular Misconceptions of Mosley vs. Cotto

No, but many times I have seen boxers turn there backs and get hit there. Heck, I even saw Taylor do it against Hopkins the first time.
It's called gamespanship. Yeah, its not in the rules to hit in the back but people do it. Just like people rabbit punch. Just like people hold. Just like people headbut. Elbow...
List goes on and on but I think you get my point. Cheating isn't ok but there is certain techniques in every sport that are used to bend the rules alittle bit. It doesn't make it ok but it sure as hell didn't affect the outcome of the Quintana bout. He was well on his way to a stoppage. Agree'd?Comment

He also LOADED UP on that shot the back with everything he had.

You do me a favour. Re-watch the bout and look at Quintana's style. He was getting hit with some clubbing shots that was making him turn his body in at an angle. That's not what coaches teach you...he was out of his element and out of natural instinct he chose to do this.
Go re-watch it. You'll see him starting to turn in at an angle and expose his back. Many times.Comment

That punch was EXTREMELY wide. Also, you've been focusing on Quintana..
Have another look from a different angle.
Quintana barely turned and Cotto's punch was almost in the middle of his back. It's up to the beholder - but in my eyes; either way Cotto was going to hit him in the back. KNOWINGLY.
Not every pro hits a guy in the back just because they can see it..
That little pocket under Quintana's elbow was still there when the punch landed. Cotto was not aiming for the liver. NO ****ING HOW.
And that wasn't the first shot landed to the back in the fight.
That was one of MANY MANY MANY.
WATCH COTTO THE ENTIRE TIME.
WATCH THE TRAJECTORY AND THE EXTENSION.Comment

He goes to the whole body - and OFTEN to the back.
That's all that's being estabished here. Miguel has no problems accruing damage with illegal punches. That is his game.
A game that works. A game that gets wins.Comment
