Only thing Pavlik and Cal will have in common is they will both be beaten by Jermain Taylor when he faces them both. Should be one hell of a fight but I see Jermain taking this one, should be a barn burner none the less.
Kelly Pavlic knocks out Jermain Taylor?

Pavlik reminds me of Joe Cal because they are both relentless, aggressive, and can take punishment. Styles different in details, but not the overrall picture, IMO.
But, it is agreed, Pavlik-Taylor will be a hotly contested affair.Comment

Good points all. Pavlik is very live in this fight. Taylor has a crazy way of pulling out close fights though. If Taylor can control the pace, he wins. If how ever Pavlick can make Taylor exchange early and ofton I see Pavlik doing very well.If Ricky Hatton comes in bright eyed and bushy tailed with a hard on, then his bout with Pretty Boy Floyd lines up as great. But, will a fight break out? That depends on matters discussed here before. On the other hand, the Kelly Pavlik-Jermain Taylor fight is guaranteed to spill over into the stands.
Kelly Pavlik is a fighting force of nature. He reminds me of a Joe Calzaghe with devastating punching power (not running down Joe Cal here, just telling it like it is). He also has a good chin. If you want to discuss possible upsets, this is the one, assuming Pavlik goes off as the underdog at fight time.
Jermain Taylor, a genuine good guy, is in his prime and can hit real hard. But, his two decisions over the ancient Bernard Hopkins were too close for comfort. Even though B Hop is still a formidable fighter, Taylor's reputation and record suggested that he should have won those fights on young legs going away. He wasn't even close. In fact, in my opinion his lost one of those fights.
Neither Taylor nor Pavlik is the best defensively, so expect offensive fireworks and blood shed. This brings me to Taylor's chin, which has not been tested. It will in this fight. Jermain Taylor is going to get hit like he never has before and I'm not convinced he will survive it (rhetorically speaking).
This fight reminds me of Joe Calzaghe v. Jeff Lacy. Pick Pavlik for a KO/TKO upset.
Wiley Hyena
other notable past picks:
Calzaghe over Lacy; Pacquiao over Barrera; Hatton over Castillo; Mayweather over Baldomir; Pacquiao over Morales II; Rafael Marquez over Israel Vasquez I; Israel Vasquez over Rafeal Marquez II; Antonio Tarver over R. Jones Jr. by knockout; and all time greatest prediction: Holyfield over Tyson I by knockout. Average: 100%.
Picking Taylor by UD because he is the proven commodity. Outside of Miranda Pavlick has a very shallow reume!Comment

Is it just me or are Easton and Wiley quickly becoming the most fluid tag team anyone has ever seen?Comment

Mind you i have seen Pavlick twice.
My impression was that he is technically sound with above average power and a solid chin. He weakness is his his inability to go backward well. He is one of those fighters that HAS to control the pace, A slick boxer would give him problems.
Style wise i would say he is a pressure fighter/brawler. He has counter punching ability but not enough to be known for it. His foot work is very limited and i see this being his biggest drawback.
He will look great against guys that will stand and trade, but the upper elite fighters are primarily boxers that rely on speed, speed, and more speed.
Unless he can cut off the ring well and walk his opponents down, he is in for some fairly lopsided decisions against him.
That said, he might just cut the ring off great. Remember , Hagler style isn't that far removed from Pavlicks. Hagler was tenacious though, Pavlick needs to get past Taylor before we can really Gauge his potential!Comment

I placed my bet for the Taylor Pavlik fight right when it hit the lines in vegas but im not too sure of my bet anymore due to the fact taylor proclaimed he'd stand toe to toe with pavlik.
i believe that is a HUGE mistake on taylor's part and i know exactly why he's fighting the fight like that...he wants the big PPV cards, the respect, the popularity so what better way to do it than slug it out for (not a full 12 rounds) with someone who is a agressive and knock him out?
thats what taylor is after and thats why he's doing it and im very surprised his trainers and such are for the gameplan...
i (personally) would draw up a gameplan that favors taylor's abilities...
1. i'd hype up pavlik's abilities (power and so on) just to be sure everything isnt understated.
2. i'd have taylor BOX (not brawl). taylor has the foot and hand speed advantage and i'd make him use it. i'd have him jab and double jab circles around pavlik staying on the outside and on occasion slipping inside for a good 3-5 punch combination and slipping back outside and jabbing more...basically frustrate and tire pavlik and after he's worn down go in for the KO (or rack up the points...one or the other)
but i wouldnt tell him to go toe to toe the whole 12 rounds especially when he has the speed advantage and in my opinion is the better BOXER with better boxing ability...
lets be honest pavlik isnt faster than taylor and what he has is the power (and obviously) the chin in my opinion so pavlik would want to get inside and trap taylor against the ropes and go for the brawl (similar to when he fought miranda) that would play to pavlik's strengths but for taylor to go along with it can be very dangerous.
taylor can still win but he's going to have to be as slick as i think he can be against someone like pavlik...
since they are going to apparently slug it out i no longer expect it to go 12 rounds an i think it will end on whoever catches who first...
hope taylor and co. know what they are doing...
still going with taylor.Comment

I agree completly. To stand and brawl after what Taylor did to a real puncher lik Miranda would be beyond ******. When Miranda Jabbed and stayed in the center of the ring,Pavlick looked very ordinary.I placed my bet for the Taylor Pavlik fight right when it hit the lines in vegas but im not too sure of my bet anymore due to the fact taylor proclaimed he'd stand toe to toe with pavlik.

Taylor may say he is gonna brawl, but i bet me left testi his is on his bike from the bell.
Look for Taylor to catch Pavlick comming in with one of those looping right hands of his. Wheather he drops Pavlick is a whole other story, but i think pavlick is gonna have the jitters. he is gonna wanna bomb, and the longer Taylor denies him this oppoutunity, the more reckless Pavlick will get.Comment
