A 2003 Lewis/Wlad match ends in a TKO for Lewis, no problem. He had more composure, better chin, stronger jab, a vicious uppercut, body attack and a plethora of big fight experience. Take a 2003 Lewis and a 2007 Wladimir and you have a far more competitive fight. As far as a 'mismatch' goes, I know you seem quite knowledgeable on the 'sweet science' but for the life of me can't see how you could draw that conclusion.

In Round 4 around the 2:00 minute mark, he locks Vitali around the back of the neck and visibily unloads with everything he has into his body(mostly the lower back and kidney area) for an extended period of time. I'm not saying it was intentional malice but Lewis was most likely in survial mode;grabbing and swinging at whatever he could hit. It should have been broken up because it was repeated fouls that could seriously injure a fighter and according to most sources did cause internal injures to Vitali.

I would say this had more of an effect on the match than any of the cuts(which were being controlled and protected btw) as he really looked spent and less active afterwards. This lead to the messy 6 round where I can't see how anybody can argue that either guy was going to rally and knock the other out later in the fight. I think we were in for lots of holding and a few sloppy exchanges with Vitali possibly keeping his lead on the cards and winning a decision but that is just pure speculation on my part.

Not sure what the spot you mentioned has anything to do with the one later in the fight. Lewis helped Vitali up earlier so he couldn't commit fouls in the heat of the moment in an increasingly ugly/sloppy fight....excuse me but wtf type of logic is that.
that had nothing to do with the other stuff I had to say, haha, I just remembered it and thought Id throw it out

You made some good points, so Ill have to rewatch it. its been a while.

If he unifies, wins his next six or seven fights, beating Peter again and Chagaev, you could arguably put him ahead of Lewis.

This is speculative, sure, but it's not insane; time will tell, but Lewis hadn't done half as much at age 30
i think lewis vs wlad would be like lewis grant, lewis would ko him in a few rounds, i will rate wlad much more if he can beat chagaev.

vitali was decent enough but will not go down as an all time great his record is not good enough, he quit against byrd he lost to lewis and beat sanders and williams hardly a great record. he could have done much more but he was so injury prone it was never gona happen.

I can't see beating Peter, Chagaev, and a few more fighters being better than defeating Tyson, Holyfield, etc. Wlad might be a great boxer and on the same level with Lewis but his resume will never come close to Lewis'.

We finally agree on something. You bring up a good, valid point on the resume. Wlad is an excellent boxer with skills, but his resume will not come close due to the comp. of the HW division today. It is really not that good and he has not unified the belts either. He might be a HOF fighter but he will not come close to being on Lennox level IMO.
