Wylie's reply to Adietheforestfa's outburst
Here I went out of my way to offer a mild defense to the charge that all Brits secretly see themselves as Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, and you came back with all that nonsense about how the Brits rule boxing and Americans suck and all that yap....
With the exception of Joe Cal, I have never even heard of one name on your pathetic list of so called British boxing greats. And, while Joe Cal may be great in merry old England, the fact is that everybody living outside your country knows that he is afraid to fight anywhere else. For this reason, he will never go down as a true great. I don't care how many drunken pubsters he knocks out.
My God, I've never seen a bigger chip on somebody's shoulder.
Where were the English heavyweights during the whole of the 20th century?? I'm not saying that the British are in the class of the Chinese when it comes to heavyweights, but let's face it, there have been very few, if any, legitimate British heavyweights in the whole history of boxing, with the exception of Lennox Lewis (who distanced himself from being British anyway).
And don't be crapping on baseball either. Any sport that calls itself "cricket" immediately conjures up androgenous images of David Bowie and other such cavorting muck.
