So you're pretty weel versed in the heavyweights of that time?

He beat everybody there was to fight, by spectacular knockout in every case, no backtracking to a dodgy decision like some of the other 'greats'

He'll be a 49-0 undefeated heavyweight champion for eternity and there's nothing you can do about that.

What the **** is with these noobs.

BTW, if you wanna see some real dodgy opponent choises, research the guys who Jack Johnson was defending his title against.

The problem is, times have changed. 15 losses on a record was okay back then. Ezzard Charles had 11 when he fought Marciano. Jersey Joe Walcott had about the same number. It is very difficult to say how good a fighter was back in that era, because records were not what it was based on.

imo, Jack Johnson and Jack Dempsey both had pretty lackluster careers, compared to how highly theyre ranked by a lot of people.
I consider Lennox Lewis's record fairly far ahead of theirs.

Marciano beat some pretty damn good fighters, and he did it convincingly. that has to count for something. If he woulda stuck around and ended up with a win over Floyd Patterson, it woulda been outstanding for his career. the Patterson wins are where Liston gets a good deal of his credit.

Seems kind of strange that Patterson was ranked highly as a heavyweight. He got destroyed by both Ali and Liston. Just never seemed to beat top competition at heavyweight. Reminds me of a Michael Spinks.

One person who had a great record against 2 guys in the top 10 (and only has one loss against one of those top 10 guys that he beat) was Gene Tunney. 79-1-1 or something like that. Undefeated against Jack Dempsey. 3-1-1 against Harry Greb. Yet he is ranked 28th all time. What the ****?

why because he beat "floyd paterson"? bahahahah, liston was slow and easy to hit, he was a primitive version of hussein rahman.

the point of the matter is guys like marciano louis ali frazier dempsey, no matter how emotional people are about these guys, the fact is they would get the **** beat out of them if they were fighting today! none of these guys brought anything special tot he table. they were all overrated.

if they had a touranment like they do in college basketball,64 fighters, 6 fights to win it all, none of these guys would make it past the 1st or 2nd round, they would get beat by medicore fighters who dont get any respect.

louis marciano liston dempsey frazier CAN NOT beat prime TUA, GOLOTA, KLITCHKO, MASKAEV, IBEUCHI etc

Yeah, I've never understood why Tunney gets ignored so much. Great record, great wins, and the available footage is all the more convicing. Fast accurate combination puncher, great foot work, nice stiff jab, a defensive mastermind, decent size for a golden age guy, and a good chin when he did get hit. Essentially, he was the prototype for Ali. Deserves to be considered in any top 10.
