Anyways, is backing up under pressure always a bad thing? I contend no, because that is the way a counterpuncher fights. Who says that his strategy against Ouma wasn't to counterpunch? I don't know, because I haven't seen the fight, but in general, backing up is the first part of counterpunching.
Well you just talked yourself out of this debate if you haven't seen the fight. It was more about Ouma forcing him backwards than him counterpunchin. He was hitting Ouma with some shots but couldn't even hurt him. He just shook them off and kept coming forward. Ouma was in front of him the whole fight and he couldn't hurt him. He also was never able to hurt Spink. I'm sorry man he's overrated. It's not a coincidence that he has been unimpressive in every fight he has been in when he stepped up his competition starting with Hopkins. HBO is trying to push and hype him so hard, they want him to be the next big thing because they no there cash cow Oscar is on his way out. He just doesn't have it.

Question: How did he win 9 rounds on one card and 10 on the other against Ouma if he was backing up and not counterpunching?

He won the fight. I never said he didn't but against a smaller guy that is not a puncher he should have been able to be more impressive. Like I said it wasn't like Ouma was trying to get out of his way he stood in from\nt of him the whole fight. He should have been able to put him away, or at least knock him down. He couldn't even do that. he was hitting him but wasn't even able to hurt him. He won the fight, which is exactly what he was supposed to do. Everything was lined up for him to look good. Smaller opponent with no power, and a guy that was gonna come right at him the whole fight. he couldn't even look good there. Look everyone has a bad night but this guy, looks bad all the time. People want to say he's stiil young, bull**** he has been in enough big fights at this point where he should have gotten it together. I'm not saying he is a bum, I'm just saying he is not as good as people want to hype him to be. His performances alone, don't give people much to defend him by.

I guess we'll see when he fights Pavlik. I think he is underrated, and you think he is overrated (along with a bunch of other people). I just hope it's conclusive one way or the other. It would really suck to have another controversial decision for Taylor after a fight when both boxers didn't look very good.

Well see what happens. He has to look good in this fight or he is done. I think he has to win this one convincingly or he is gonna take much deserved heat, especially if he has another contreversial decision or lackluster performance. I think there will be more action because Pavlik is gonna make him fight. I hope Pavlik wins because at least we would get more exciting fights out of him, and your right I think Taylor is very overrated.

People always ***** about how bad Taylors performance was against Ouma, but Taylor won almost every round, and was landing some pretty huge shots on Ouma. can Pavlik take those shots? perhaps. but if those kind of shots land, Taylor is still going to be scoring a hell of a lot of points and go on to win the decision.

problem is, Taylor has looked so different in every fight for so long, I really cant say if he'll beat Pavlik or not. I think it will be a very fun fight to watch.

and Pavlik's nickname is the ghost because he was so hard to hit in the amateurs, he would just keep vanishing out of the way of punches....or maybe the punches went right through him like a ghost...idfk, thats just what Ive heard.

Like i said I didn't say he didn't win the fight, but everything was setup for hom to look good and he couldn't even do that. he was fighting a smaller guy who couldn't punch and a guy that was coming straight at him. Ouma was getting hit with shots but kept coming forward, so what does that say about Taylors power. If Pavlik can take flush shots from Miranda and come forward, I think he can handle taylors shots. Not to many people can handle a flush shot from Miranda, and taylor hasn't peoved in about the last fight that he can hurt anyone or put them down. I don't think pavlik will have any trouble handling Taylors punch. He's not a big puncher anyway. If anyone should be worried about getting hit flush it should be Taylor.

Pavlik doesn't have time to tan, he's a real man and a real fighter. Taylor's going to have his chin checked sooner or later.

This is a very bad match-up for Taylor. He's going to get steamrolled. Taylor without Pat Burns is like a blind man wihtough his guide dog. First TKO on Taylor's record. You can book it.
