Ricky won't be P4P #1 if he beat Mayweather

    History proves it:

    http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.ph...r_Pound--2000s

Check the swing between 2001 and 2002. Remember 2002 was the year that Shane Mosley lost to Vernon Forrest twice. Forrest was undefeated (like Hatton) and beat the undefeated P4P #1 (like Mayweather) twice, and only got bumped up to #4. I know Ricky is ranked higher now, but I doubt he jumps to #1 if Forrest didn't get that far up there.

    IMO,

If Taylor beats Pavlik, and Hatton beats PBF, then The HillBilly is #1 P4P.

      yea i agree.

Thats Larry Merchants famous line in the post fight interview with Forrest after he beat Mosley.

Merchant said, "Just because you beat Tiger Woods, doesn't make you Tiger Woods."

      and its true

Taylor isn't even on the list right now. I think he is 12, because he got knocked off before Barrera did, so I think Barrera is 11, and Taylor is 12. If Pacquiao wins, he is #1 IMO, if he loses, then it's a huge tossup. Maybe Juan Manuel Marquez? Idk, that would be kind of interesting to watch. I really hope they put Taylor back on the list though, I think it's bull**** that he isn't on there. He has the best resume in the last few years, and is still undefeated.

That is the travesty to me.

IMO, Taylor's (potential) undefeated run of:

          Hopkins+Hopkins+Winky+Ouma+Spinks+ Pavlik

is as good as any in boxing.

If someone says that Spinks is the weak link there, I encourage them to review Spinks' career.
Pac is one of my favourite fighters. But he has been feasting on shopworn morales and Barrera.

By contrast, Pavlik is a live, dangerous, hungry killer.

I think the biggest myth in boxing is that Taylor is not a great fighter. He does have the best current run of anyone, by far. Everyone gives him **** because he has been "squeeking" by in his wins over Wright and Hopkins, and hasn't looked great against Spinks. Who has dominated Hopkins or Wright? No one, I don't know why Taylor should be required to do so. Taylor did what he had to do to win against Cory Spinks, even if he looked awful doing it. Cory ran, and no one looks great when their opponent's MO is not getting hit.

There's nothing wrong with squeeking by your best competition. He finds a way to win, and I respect that.

Ray Leonard beat Benitez soundly, but then he was behind with Hearns, and the Hagler decision is disputed even today. He went 1-1 with Duran.

Ali struggled mightily with Frazier, and Norton was obviously no picnic for him.

Holyfield struggled with Bowe and Lennox.

I'm not comparing Stammer to those guys...just giving examples of how even the best guys don't terrorize their top comp.

Hopkins will be a cert for p4p #1 if Hatton beats Floyd.

Except he is behind Pacquiao and Marquez (who isn't fighting), so I don't know how Hopkins will jump over Marquez.

Hatton will be my p4p #1 if he beats Mayweather.

Undefeated with wins over Tszyu, Castillo and Mayweather - two weight world champion, i don't think you can compare that with Forrest's case.

To be honest if the Floyd fans on here wouldn't put hatton at #1 in this instance then I'd be pretty disappointed in them. it's all conjecture anyway, as Hatton most likely will catch an L

DWiens, you're a pretty good poster, what thinks you?
