as far as smarts in the ring, i think that carrying some of his fights and lulling the crowd to sleep isn't that smart, i mean he is a performer. as much as i like a defensive fighter it does get boring watching a guy carry another guy when his talent level is so much more than his opponents.
but i wasn't saying floyd wasn't smart in the ring, he is, he does what you're supposed to do when you fight, and that is to get the other guy to fight your fight, play your game, and floyd does that. sometimes it isnt the best thing to watch, and i admit that i can watch hopkins fight all day long because i like what he does inside the ring defensively and i like what floyd does defensively but only up to a certain point, because i personally think that floyd could make the ref or corner stop a fight at anytime if he were to step on the gas sometimes, where as hopkins can too but hopkins doesn't outshine his opponents with talent, he outshines them with game plan, hard work, strategy, and making it rough for his opponents to get anything off. floyd makes it hard for them to find him and a good portion of the time he doesn't make them pay when the opportunity is there.
as i digress.................i'm not comparing the two in any way, i'm just stating that certain styles appeal to different people.
good talkin with ya, over and out............Comment

You must like the way I called u 'junior'. You've been running it since. I appreciate that compliment. You keep talking about me being behind this monitor..
Is this just pathetic high ground of a desperate man - or would you like to do something about it???
Are you some kind of tough guy?
Because you may want to do your research before you assume I can't do what I've done to you here worse physically, than I have demonstrated I can intellectually.. I ain't no ****ing punk.. Or have you not already realized that?
You wouldn't want to see me, junior.
And, yes, you are off the charts on my punk-meter.
I wanna talk boxing. Flick. But like the insignificant bug you are, you'll be back.Comment

I agree with that assessment. But PBF did seem to do just that at 140 and down, and his first coupla fights at 147. He was always a smart aggressor, looking to end it.as far as smarts in the ring, i think that carrying some of his fights and lulling the crowd to sleep isn't that smart, i mean he is a performer. as much as i like a defensive fighter it does get boring watching a guy carry another guy when his talent level is so much more than his opponents.

With Baldomir, I think he figured that the titanium-domed Argentine wasn't going anywhere, and he hurt his hand and put it on cruise control. I did find the first half of that fight very entertaining. Perhaps people now realize Baldo's chin after watching a big Vernon Forrest wail on him for 12 rounds.
With Oscar, PBF fought (too?) cautiously. He never took it out of second gear. That was bad for the CASUAL fan. I think the more knowledgeable fan appreciated his classic boxing against a much bigger man who is as good as ODLH is. But , you're right. A fight of that magnitude should galvanize the fans. And it did not.Comment

if floyd dominates the fight and wins by tko, or even a wide points decision i will hold my hands up and apologise, but i just think your points can be a little bit ignorant because i dont think u know ricky hatton very well as a fighter, whereas i think i very good knowledge on both fighters as i have all of their fights on dvd, except for the more recent ones. i have seen ricky hatton live on more than one occassion. ive seen you saying hatton hasnt got a good jab on a thread, which just isnt true, i dont think you have the technical knowledge on him. he has a way above average jab and boxing skills in general, if you have seen enough of his fights you would know this, he was a brilliant amateur. it was only when he turned pro that he started moulding himself into a pressure fighter. But if your right i will tell you were and i hope your man enough to do the sameComment

1) Did I say that hatton doesn't have a good jab. You are putting words in my mouth. I asked the question of whether that poster would recommend that Ricky use his jab as a way to get in on Mayweather.if floyd dominates the fight and wins by tko, or even a wide points decision i will hold my hands up and apologise, but i just think your points can be a little bit ignorant because i dont think u know ricky hatton very well as a fighter, whereas i think i very good knowledge on both fighters as i have all of their fights on dvd, except for the more recent ones. i have seen ricky hatton live on more than one occassion. ive seen you saying hatton hasnt got a good jab on a thread, which just isnt true, i dont think you have the technical knowledge on him. he has a way above average jab and boxing skills in general, if you have seen enough of his fights you would know this, he was a brilliant amateur. it was only when he turned pro that he started moulding himself into a pressure fighter. PBF is possibly the best right hand counterpuncher in the sport. In all of PBF's fights, the opponent stops jabbing because of the defense/hard stuff coming back. Unless they are a southpaw giving a different look.
Hatton is the shorter man with the shorter reach and the slower hands. Facing a great counterpuncher. Do you think he should come in behind the jab?
2) You most likely know Hatton better than me. I think I saw six fights. None live. Most of them recent. Collazo, Urango, Tszyu, Castillo, Cool Vince, and another one. Plus YT or videoclips of several others. I didn't see maussa. Conversely, I think I know PBF better than you.
3) Hatton may be a very good boxer. But that will still leave his boxing ability several leagues below Floyd. Hatton's gameplan better involve getting inside and staying there as long as possible. If he boxes outside, it's a very short nite, and the Strip will be full of dejected Brits by 9pm.
4) I think that Ricky's (principal) technical flaw is that he throws wide punches, leaving himself open up the middle. The image that flashes in my mind is Ali-Frazier. Joe throwing the heavy hook while Ali drops the 1-2. But that version of Ali didn't have PBF's footwork. And , for me. the jury is out of Hatton's chin/durability. Collazo is not a bomber.
We see the fight differently - which is OK. I'll see ya bright and early on the morning of Dec. 9th. One of us chomping on a large plate of crow.
