And they tortured the animals for their sick pleasure
whoa i stand corrected, but there is alread a doublestandard for rich people Mike Vick should be fined millions and millions and forced to open animal shelter/Vet Clinics so there can be some sort of benefit for dogs/animals now Vick will rot and there will be no benefit for any dog anywhere, except for rich prick finding a better way to waste there time and money

Animals are not humans true, but dogs are not cows, pigs, deer, or any of the other animals that are commonly killed for food or hunting. Dogs are "man's best friend" and there are reasons they have been domesticated for as much as 100,000 years. Namely usefullness, intelligence and loyalty.

Anybody that intentionally causes harm to a dog deserves a harsh punishment. Anybody that systematically fights, tortures and kills dogs deserves jail time to the fullest extent of the law. I hope he spends about 4-5 years in jail and when he gets out has to do a LOT of community service with dogs. After that, if he still has the ability to play in the NFL, I think he should be allowed. He will have paid his debt to society and I'd like to think has matured and grown to see how sick what he was doing truly was.

            Dalliance,

That is a Western viewpoint, and (no dis intended) is kinda narrow-minded.

In various parts of Asia, cows are sacred, and dogs and cats are routinely killed and eaten. What Americans consider pets are food elsewhere, and what they consider pets, we look at as "steak". So, that tells you that our views about dogs is more 'cultural' and not a 'moral certainty'. Killing of a human, however, is unviversally wrong.

****-fighting is outlawed in this country. People are repulsed by it. Where I grew up, it is a very popular and beloved sport. Does that make my people morally inferior?

Prince Charles participates in fox hunting. Do you know what happens when the dogs catch the fox?

In case you don't know, animals are routinely abused during animal testing. The products you use at home are tested on animals to determine what potential damage they can do to humans. Those rabbits (for example) are blinded, etc.

Read somewhere that dogs have an almost 90% identical central nervous system function as humans do. That means they feel pain in the exact same way we do when we get hurt. So picture what some prisoner of war must feel after being tortured by the enemy and that's how Vick's dogs felt after he tormented them. There is no excuse for sick behavior like that, Vick needs to be punished and tought a lesson, plain and simple.

Isn't that true of most mammals?

Biologically speaking, humans and other primates (for example) are 99% identical. But that 1% is vast.

I understand the double standard in regards to hunting and rodeo, but I don't support hunting for sport or rodeo anyway so that's not my problem. And what makes me despise the guy is the fact that he tortured animals. I don't respect dog fighting either, but I wouldn't hate the guy for being into watching it or betting on it.

What people are failing to realize is that he broke the law. He wasn't just fighting dogs, he was making untaxed money off of it. He's being made an example of because he's a high profile athlete. That comes with the territory. He deserves to be put in jail for breaking the law, regardless of how barbaric it may be.

Twisting a calf's neck until it flips over on its back isn't torturous? So, you are essentially acknowledging that you are OK with selective enforcement and double standards. Cool.
