I'd like to know when this supposed offer was made to Mosley because by mid 99 Mosley was already fighting at Welter. Mayweather just won his first world title late 98' & was still fighting at 130. That's a small time frame for this fight to happen.

Wow!! Shane looks great fighting stiffs and pretenders and not real contenders, that should have been the name of this thread. Time to face reality, the 135 was very weak at the time of his fighting days at that division. The guys he was crushing with crunching power and blazing speed where some of the weakest opponents for a guy that is considered an elite fighter. He for some reason never made a fight with Stevie Johnston, that would have been a great test to see if Mosley was really a beast. Like I have posted before on Mosley, he is a fighter that has lived off his reputation at 135 and has made a career from beating ODLH in the first fight. He has no significant wins against any good opponents besides ODLh in the 1st fight. Name me a fighter that he beat that you can say "Wow he beat that guy" I can't think of one...and no ancient Leija or Molina or faded Vargas don't count.

im not dis*****g your point i just think shane messed up his potential with bad decisions, but his talent was almost at a roy jones level IMO....

and he probably didnt fight Stevie because of Stevies rivalry with Bazan...

and they were champions at the same time for like 10 months or so....so i dnt hold that against him...

Hey hyperion, I see that you live in MX city. You write english with no problem, are you from the states and live in MX or have you studied english. I wish **** in Mx would change specifically the economy and the crime, so that I could live there again like I did back in 82-83 in Guadalajara. I really could see myself living in Mx and opening up a business in Guayabitos ,Vallarta or Gudalajara.

Other than that, it was tomato cans and more tomato cans.

Yes, he had speed and power at lightweight, that's true, but he never really faced that many good opponents so it's really more of a "coulda woulda shoulda" than anything else.
Come to think of it,thats a good post and i agree,he was a beast, but he didnt fight the best

Talking of beast,if u ask me,Mayweather was at lightweight,he was very exciting to watch, the way he dominated opponents, even knocked them out,Mayweather fought,Hernandez,Corrales,Castillo x2,Jesus Chavez,****,even Augustus

SSM has turned down TWO PBF offers so far.

Do you 'member when Floyd was at 130 and he said that you can "bring him any fighter at 154 on down"? And they asked him who he wanted to fight and he said ODLH? At the time, Oscar was a scary 147er, I believe. That was around the time that PBF offered SSM a fight, and SSM outpriced himself.

                Article follows.

                Mosley wants Mayweather

                Sunday, May 06, 2007
                By David Mayo

LAS VEGAS -- Floyd Mayweather's retirement threats aside, a logical next opponent -- Shane Mosley -- emerged several months ago.

Mosley passed on a November proposal to fight Mayweather, saying he preferred to take a vacation instead.

"If he wants to fight, we can fight at 147," Mosley said last week, before Saturday's Oscar De La Hoya-Mayweather showdown. "Win, lose, or draw, I'm willing to fight Mayweather next."

Mosley's willingness aside, the fight could prove difficult to make.

"I don't care what no sparring partner has to say," Mayweather said. "Honestly, I don't pay any attention to what any sparring partners say. I don't pay attention to him. I'm not going to have a mental match with a sparring partner."

Mosley's win last year over Fernando Vargas positioned him ideally to be Mayweather's next opponent.

But when Mosley said he preferred to take a vacation instead, it wasn't the first time he declined Mayweather.

Their challenges, and failures to reach deals, date back as far as 1999, when Mosley was the lightweight champion, and Mayweather held a title five pounds lighter, at super featherweight. But Mosley's father, Jack, said it would take a $10 million purse to interest his son, and Mayweather opted against a quick move from 130 to 135 pounds.

Over the years, weight and finance kept them apart. Mosley progressed through the weights more quickly, and his earning power escalated, without the risk of fighting Mayweather.

But two wins over De La Hoya were interspersed with two losses each to Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright, while Mayweather remained unbeaten. Now Mosley needs the fight.

Team Mayweather feels differently, after Mosley declined to fight after last year's two wins over Fernando Vargas. Mosley opted to fight nondescript Luis Collazo in February.

"He had his chance, and his tooth was hurt , and he wanted to take a family vacation," Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser said. "He didn't make $2 million in his last fight. Floyd made more for fighting Diego Corrales six years ago than Shane Mosley did in his last fight . That just shows you the fight makes no economic sense.

"Shane Mosley has to be able to bring something to the table, and at this point in his career, he brings nothing to the table. "

Mosley took a couple opportunities to confront Mayweather this week, including barking at him at Friday's weigh-in . Mayweather barked back.

"It just lets me know that I'm on his mind , and he's thinking about me, and he knows, that down the way. ... If he wasn't threatened by me, he wouldn't have spoken to me. That's why I get up there, and get in his face, and let him see that I'm right here, and I'm waiting for him right here," Mosley said.

                  Knicks,

I'm not like most people. If I say something, then I got it from what I felt is a pretty credible, objective source.

I won't just take Ellerbe or Arum (for example) at their word. Because they have a vested interest. Most senior boxing writers will give you teh true scoop.

So trust when I tell ya...

I've seen that article before DD but at that time (1999) it was well known that Mosely was having trouble making 135 limit. As an amateur he fought at 139 so for him to fight at 47 was better on his body. He may have turned down a fight with him at the time but it wasn't because he was scared but to me it didn't make business sense at the time. Mayweather was an up & coming fighter but not a big name. Mosely moved to 147 to fight DLH for the payday & the recognition & it paid off for him.

That's cool. I just wanted to know because it was such a short time frame that the fight could've jumped off. And the tooth excuse was pitiful. But I think that Mosley knew DLH & Mayweather were gonna fight so he kinda just stepped to the side so that fight could be made.
