I do actually remember reading this somewhere now that I thought of it but didn't pay it any attention.

I forgot that it's too cold to ever have boxing at Wrigley Field and in the summer there's no opening with the Cubs playing.

With events like these (boxing) there's something called a "site fee".
The site/arena that's hosting the fight has to pay the promoters a fee to host the fight.
The reason you see a lot of these fights at casinos that hold 12,000-18,000 is that they offer the higher fee than other venues.
The reason they can offer more money is because they have casinos at these venues (Mandalay bay and MGM). The fans attending these fights will be ******** which means that the casinos can offer more money to the promoters for a sight fee than an arena/stadium with more seats.
If the fight is at their casino they know that they can count on a certain amount of dollars coming in because of 12,000-16,000 extra people over a few days spending money in the casino at their hotel.
Regrardless, you can't hold a fight outdoors at Wembly in December and expect 90,000 people to show up, it's too cold. I don't care who is fighting, its the middle of winter!
