By Ryan ******** - There are no doubts - and foolish ones, if any - as to Floyd Mayweather's claim to being the man in boxing. Forget beating De La Hoya, although that in itself was a grand achievement. Mayweather won his first world championship after only one year as a pro in 1998, and the man still wears his crown without a mark on his ledger. Say what you want, but that's pretty impressive. In order to be a star you have to put people in the seats contrary to what this author believe Mayweather will never sell as DLH and Tyson before did. -
Yeah, but that doesnt mean that your not a star. Those 2 guys are on a different planet, plus they had other things going for them. Tyson was a HW which always gives you a super huge advantage in the US. Oscar was Mexican-American with movie star looks that made all the girls want to see him who didnt even care about boxing. Still, Floyd has passed everyone else in the game and its not even close but yet fools on here keep acting like no one knows who he is.Comment

WOW, I believe they said it all. Damn, let the truth be known, right from the mayweathers themselves.Comment

He may not get to their levels, but Mayweather is still a huge star in boxing. DLH couldn't do 2 million buys with anyone but Mayweather...

Mayweather will NOT sell as much as Oscar/Tyson. But, so what? That's like saying that Shaq sucks because he won't score 100 points like Wilt. Or that Griffey failed before he won't hit 700 homers.
There's no need to aim for stratospheric Oscar nums. Establishing a new benchmark of "Mayweather nums" somewhere below the Oscar/Tyson level is fine. If Floyd, as a fairly small guy, can get to the 700K PPVs level when headlining a card, that would be quite an achievement.
Oscar is an aberration.Comment
