Nonetheless, Floyd's incredible talent does continue to enthrall and fascinate young fans, who are the most impressionable among observers. Like Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard, and Roy Jones before him, he is the fighter that kids at the local boxing gyms strive to emulate.

The above quote, for me, is the most significant in the article.

That is Floyd's legacy in the sport. I have seen this with my own eyes. I have seen it on YouTube as guys mimic the Mayweather style. I have seen it on the street as guys playbox or slap-box. And I saw it in a martial arts gym. And the guys who were doing it at the gym were not 12... they were in their 20s.

Nobody is trying to fight in the "Oscar style"... or "Cotto style"... or "Hatton style". Because of Floyd, many people are now focused on being a better defensive fighter.

In much the same way that Deion Sanders turned the cornerback position into a 'glamour' position, Floyd is impacting the sport by leaving both his defensive and stylistic imprint.

But he'll never sell Delahoya numbers.

sooo, this part would upset you:

"I would love to see Mayweather fight Miguel Cotto," says Hauser. Maybe Floyd would outbox Cotto over twelve rounds or maybe Cotto would wear him down. I don't think we're going to see Floyd Mayweather get in the ring with Miguel Cotto any time soon. Floyd Mayweather fighting Ricky Hatton isn't going to prove anything. Floyd is bigger than Ricky, he's too fast for him. That's just a money fight. A fight against Shane Mosley would be interesting, although I think Shane is too slow for Mayweather right now. When [Floyd] fought Oscar, he was seeking the most marketable opponent possible. If he wants to win the hearts of hardcore boxing fans, he should seek out the toughest opponents in his weight class."

How is that true? I didn't know headlining pay per views and making 10 mil per fights was due to humiliating yourself, I might want to try that if that is the case.

To me, this is the quote from Jeff Mayweather that made the article:

"It was like a Joe Jackson situation, where he created this monstrous machine, but he wasn't able to teach him how to be a man. Don't get me wrong, Floyd Senior accomplished making his son into a great fighter. Joe Jackson was successful in making Michael Jackson into probably the greatest entertainer ever. But look at him as a person. Just like Floyd is a great fighter, but look at him as a person. Sometimes that's the price that you pay when you focus on only one thing."

I didn't think throwing money around in a ring was a classy and professional thing to do. It gives the impression that his merit as a person comes from his wealth and not his class and respactable image.

                    Factor in these circumstances:

                    1. People were starting to really find out who Floyd Mayweather is.

                    2. He was ranked p4p #1.

                    3. People wanted to see how he does against one of the best.

                    4. De La Hoya has always been recognized as one of the best.

                    5. Obviously the fight would sell.

It's the SIGNIFICANCE of the fight that helped sell...not Mayweather.

                      Word.

Would you rather make a "humiliating" 70 million dollars (in THREE years) and be universally recognized p4p with five titles like Floyd?....or be "dignified" like Margarito?
