Right now i would choose Vasquez. But its still to early....depends on the performance of cotto against mosley, or pbf against hatton, or pavlik against taylor.
But as i said, for now Vasquez is my fighter of the year, and depending on the other 3 performances this could change =P

Hagler - Hearns was only 3 rounds =P

and i think that vasquez - marquez ii is so far the foty. dude, it was just amazing.

if hatton beats mayweather its gotta be him hands down
beats an undefeated champion in uango
first person to knock out catillo
first person to beat p4p best mayweather
it all rides on the mayweather fight

The are exceptions, like Gatti KO5 Ruelas and Hagler-Hearns like you said. But if Marquez-Vazquez III has all the action that I and II did but goes 10 or so, it will trump it for that reason alone. That's just why I think it will be Marquez-Vazquez III or Mayorga-Vargas.

in my opinion if hatton (which i hope he will) beats mayweather he's fighter of the year hands down. He would have beat the P4p champ...knocked out castillo WITH A BODY PUNCH...and it will overall overshadow anything else any other fighter has done this year.

hatton and mayweather (so far...) is the most meaningful fight of 07'.

before this it was de la hoya v. mayweather...

but now hatton is in the picture.

if de la hoya beat mayweather de la hoya would get my vote for fighter of the year (for the same reason...he beat the p4p champ and that doesnt happen everyday)

HOWEVER...if the year was ending TODAY...then...i'd vote for cotto.

To me its either Hopkins or Williams. They have the wins over the biggest names and accomplished fighters. Izz's win was great but he did also lose to that same guy this year so he cant be the FOTY so far.

Most of you arent even giving the right response. Half of you are talking about the "fight" of the year and not the "fighter" of the year. The other half of you are talking about "if" a guy does this then he will win but the question was who is the guy so far, meaning right now

I don't think there is a standout fighter thus far, but it's pretty clear that the winner of Hatton-Mayweather will take the award. If Hatton wins he's beaten Urango in a shutout, Castillo by a devastating KO and the p4p #1. If mayweather wins he will have beaten Oscar at his 5th weight class and an unbeaten genuine champion in Hatton.

Again agree that if Hatton manages to beat Mayweather then it has to be him.

Urango was tricky fight and he destroyed Castillo not to mention pushing for the Mayweather fight.

Saying that if Mayweather wins again it will be his year.

Up to this point it has to be paul williams. Don't think you have to be in the fight of the year to be the fighter of the year.
There is no one else who's stock has risen so much this year, just go back and look at the comments about an unproven williams before the margarito fight and now there are posts claiming he'd beat cotto, mayweather etc and no-one wants to fight him.

If there was an award for a fighter of most of the year (1st of jan to dec7th) i'd give it to him, but whoever wins the biggie on dec 8th will take the fighter of the year.

Really, really impressed with cintron in his last fight as well, and his discovery that he has a left hand.
